I don’t think this meme being floated that Perry’s problem was nothing more that being caught in “gotcha” questions in a “contrived” format and therefore he wasn’t as smooth as he needed to be is going to fly.

I think conservatives are unhappy with the substance of what Perry was saying, in particular on illegal immigration.

Another performance like last night and this could all be a moot point. There might be some changes on the leader board coming soon.

I wonder if the public picks up on the fact that Bachman, Santorum, and Romney are blowing smoke when they talk about a 1200-mile fence keeping Mexicans out of Texas. Perry is right about it not working: you can always dig under, punch through, or climb over a fence. What is needed are UAVs and enough troops to respond to incursions.

There were no "gotcha" questions at all. The one on instate tuition took me most of 5 years to lay into the warp and woof of the internet, and to prime the entirety of the American electorate to focus on just for Perry ~ and I didn't even know who he was at the time.

By the time you get your pen name, Free Republic, and the question itself logged in so many times that the combo gets you the number one position on Google.com, there's simply no gotcha' left in it.

I may be the Democrat's number one target in their new "Google.com neutrality rule" proposal.

Yes.

And, as the saying goes, THIS IS WHY YOU PLAY THE GAME.

There's nothing remotely wrong or off-putting about the candidates' challenging each other's positions and record. I've watched the debates and have not seen a predominance of low blows, cheap shots or ad hominen attacks.

When we start boo-hooing that we shouldn't be challenging ourselves and our own candidates, we play into the Left's drumbeat that we shouldn't be challenging their guy either.

Seems the staff writer who wrote this doesn't have a clue about what this process is really about so let me give him one. The rank and file conservatives are way beyond fed up with the inside the beltway blue blood RINOs again trying to pick our presidential candidate for us as they did with McCain. We don't want to just trade a crooked slimy politician who happens to have a 'D' after his just for one with a 'R' after his name.

We, the rank and file have had our fill with business as usual. We want real change and not just letters after a name. And that change just scares the living crap out of RINOs everywhere including around here, afreaid they will lose their gravy train ride and control of the purse strings.
