This drug or inhaler is like most ones that you get from the doctor except it has a gas that blows the Chemical out. This drug is no more dangerous than Symbicort or Combivent all of them have side affects..Sorry, but you're wrong about that. It's true all of them have side effects, but Primatene would never get approved now because the side effects are worse than newer drugs, and the benefits are less. Inhaled epinephrine is short acting, and on some people has a rebound effect. It raises the heart rate more than newer drugs. It wears off much faster than newer drugs. Combivent is albuterol plus ipatropium, both "rescue" type medicines, but much longer acting than primatene, and with less side effect. Symbicort is a steroid plus formoterol, both "controller" type medications rather than for immediate relief.
The makers of Primatene could reformulate with the HFAs just like albuterol did. There is no indication that they plan to do that, which should tell you something - they don't think Primatene has a future because it's not a good drug.

Your full of it! I read where the doctors wanted to control the substance because of the side affects. I take both of those drugs I told you before and the side effects are really bad just like Primatene! primatene wouldn’t get approval because the big drug companies don’t want it on the market! Period.. It is like the codeine drug. You used to be able to buy over the counter aspirin with codeine cough syrup with codeine. But the Federal government had to step in and make you go to the doctor get a prescription have the Pharmacist make it up for you. Lots of people were going to Canada and Mexico to get their drugs instead of here!

If you want to talk about side effects, the new HFA inhalers contain a brand new propellant along with new inactive ingredients, leachables, and extractables. None were adequately tested before being approved.
IIRC all but one of the new HFA inhalers contain corn based ethanol. Ethanol is a know trigger for some asthmatics and corn a known allergen.
The switch from CFC to HFA was a purely PC 'green' political decision which conveniently enriched DOW chemical and big pharma. I have met people for whom primetene mist was a perfectly adequate rescue inhaler. OTH I have yet to meet someone who didn't say minimally say that the HFA inhalers just don't work as well. Of course not, among other things per the FDA the deep breath delivers the medication. Ironic eh? Maximally the new HFA inhalers cause asthma attacks.
As to the new PDI's, powdered inhalers, they all contain lactose which contains enough milk proteins to cause allergic reaction in those who are allergic to milk.
And the new HFA's have been deemed to cause 'global warming', so in Europe the push is on to replace the new refrigerants and inhaler propellants. The new new asthma inhalers should be on the market just about when the patents expire on the HFA inhalers.
