Perry’s collapse makes way for Christie and others?
WAPO ^ | 09/23/11 | Jennifer Rubin

Yesterday I wrote a vignette in jest suggesting what New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie might be yelling at his TV during the GOP debate. Unlike his alter-ego in my vignette, the real Bill Kristol did not call Christie to plead nor drive over to his house to urge him to get into the race. Instead he used his Web site , figuratively speaking, to run over Texas Gov. Rick Perry with an 18-wheeler and drive through Christie’s living room window:

With nine candidates on the stage, and answers restricted to one minute, it’s hard to really show your stuff. And two of the candidate — Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney — did provide respectable performances. But no front-runner in a presidential field has ever, we imagine, had as weak a showing as Rick Perry. It was close to a disqualifying two hours for him. Bill’s solution: “A big man for a big job.” And you know who that is.

Perry did not collapse. He was awful last night but he is still the most viable conservative candidate we have. palin CAN NOT win. Period.

Perry crashed and burned last night. I was very disappointed. Worse for him is there still other issues they can hit him with so he can't move on. Realistically, he could have given a logical reason for in-state tuition to children of illegals, then blasted Bachmann, Romney and others for not supporting state rights. Instead he went to the GW compassionate Conservative crap and came up with "you don't have a heart". Hell, I support Rick and Texas on this issue and that comment offended me. I wonder what GW flunky advised him on that line.

—Well it’s better to vote against the Killer of the USA isn’t it?—

I consider it a dead country walking. Thing is, in my “heart of hearts” I don’t really much care who wins next november - even if it’s Sarah. The problems are too big.

My personal solution to this mess is my personal preparations. I think our government is going to be a mere shadow of even its current self by next November. I’m following this election like someone would follow high school football. I may root for one team or the other, but this time who wins really doesn’t matter all that much.

Watch what happens the next six months. It will be an eye opener for a lot of people. As far as I am concerned, the whole world is Poland and it is summer of 1939. Who they elect as their leader is not all that relevant to me. I’m trying to figuratively get the heck out of Poland before September.

That was exactly the plan, to help the big government guy, Romney, get back in the lead, he is after all the candidate that the media wants to see Obama run against.

I agree wholeheartedly.

But I did notice that the applause Romney received tended to be lukewarm and polite. I don't know if that means anything, but I don't think Slick Willard is connecting.

On a side note, I observed last night that Mitt sounds just like James Carville when he talks - minus the southern accent.

Just when do we pick our candidates on how well they do in a debate. Let’s look at their records instead.

Exactly. People argued for centuries about the velocities of falling objects, but it wasn't until Galileo dropped his balls off the Leaning Tower of Pisa that the issue was finally settled. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

“Well it’s better to vote against the Killer of the USA isn’t it?”

Absolutely...and yet I regularly see “Christie’s worse than Obama!”, “Perry’s worse than Obama!”, “Romney’s worse than Obama!”. Unbelievable.

I wish the northeast RINO pukes would give it up. Fat-boy (and I say this as a waistline-challenged American myself) Christie ain’t gonna run, no matter how much you swoon, and he certainly won’t win.

Eva, Perry’s wounds were self inflicted last night.

the “LIAR” label is going to stick, just because it’s the truth.

The media has two reasons for Proping up Romney with these debates.

1. some of them honestly want Romney to win, since he is the most liberal of the electable candidates.

2. the are in a business... and they need a horse race to keep people tuned in, if Perry had run away with this liked it looked like he was about to do, everyone would have tuned out till next year. With a horse race, they keep people tuned in and pad their salaries.

Perry picked the absolute worst possible issue to be a RINO on- illegal immigration...

And the absolute worst possible two issues to be a RINO on - in no particular order - illegal immigration and obamacare.

Perry didn’t do a good job last night, but he had a bunch of “Nats” like Santorum and Bachmann taking shots at him as well as fending off the glib Romney.

He has to improve. I don't doubt his abilities to lead. He has proven himself to be more than competent as an executive. However, he has to be strong enough one on one against obama that the middle class suburban women don't go all wobbly and vote for obama because "he says things better".

I don’t need to ‘study up on history’! I was there in 1979 and 1980, working on Reagan’s campaign as a college intern. Palin is NOT Reagan!

Ithink it is time to get rid of all the Wannabees and just have debates with Romney and Perry.

Actually both Perry and Romney should drop out. Both proved conclusively last night they have NO business being in the race.

Both are Democrat Lite Establishment bots.

We cannot afford either of them.

The Republic is in danger. We need real tough solutions and real leadership not more twist in the breeze politics as usual types.

Neither Romney nor Perry are fit to be President.

i get the feeling they may no vote at all- granted we are still a year away...

in the run-up to the ‘08 election literally 75% of the cars around here has obozo stickers on them....its down to less than ten....i’ve seen a few obozo 2012 stickers but i can count them on one hand and have fingers left...

on the other hand there was a big sign on one of the highways last week which read “Don’t Believe the Liberal Media”...there was a GOP primary here last week and one of the GOP candidates reminded everyone her opponent had given obama $1K....my daughter missed the bus this morning and i drove her to school- in the parking lot of this school, where the principals sectary wears a union button, one of the cars had a big bumper sticker which read “THE LIBERAL MEDIA LIES”...that sort of stuff is new and shows a change...

granted when i was in the gym yesterday i wore a t-shirt that had an obama emblem on it and in big letters the word ZERO written across...i figured i’d see heads explode which is why i wore it (RFK JR, Billy Baldwin and other uber liberals workout at this gym) but i got a lot of positive reaction...

Christie is way too fat to ever be president. The guy is obese and a physical embarrassment. Any supporter who saw him walking with Obama had to cringe. Hate to sound mean, but them are the facts in this media-driven day.

IMHO debates should be reserved for between the Republican and Democratic candidates.

The problem with debating amongst fellow party members, is that since everybody pretty much is the same on most of the issues, all there is are personal attacks. And all that does is bring everybody down.

In more ways than one.

A great governor for New Jersey but a BAD choice for the White House. He’s also meeting with that SOB Mitch Daniels, another proven Islamophile RINO.

So, he isn’t a good debater.

He's awful.

That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be a good president.

Doesn't mean he would, either.

We’ve had enough of someone who supposedly speaks well and look at the mess this country is in.

Operative word is "supposedly." We all know he doesn't speak well on his feet. Like Perry, he might be able to give a speech, but that's about it.

Why are Americans so danged superficial?

Why do birds sing? All people are superficial. But there are substantive reasons to pay attention to those factors. I won't bother to list them now. I'm not trying to reinvent the world.
