Issa endorses Mitt Romney for president
San Diego Union-Tribune ^ | Sept. 22, 2011 | Christopher Cadelago

U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, endorsed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for president on Thursday, a month after assailing his chief rival in a speech in San Diego.

Romney has garnered support from a growing number of congressional Republicans as he battles with Texas Gov. Rick Perry, front-runner for the party nomination according to most polls.

“As someone who shares my background in business, Congressman Issa understands that we need to make fundamental changes in Washington,” Romney said in a statement. “I am proud to have his support and look forward to working with him as I campaign in California and work to bring jobs back to the state and strengthen the American economy.”

Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has criticized the way the Lone Star State added hundreds of thousands more jobs than any other state — a phenomena dubbed the "Texas Miracle."

“Rick Perry’s entire claim to fame is that he kicked our ass. You guys can laugh. You can let it out,” Issa said at a downtown fundraiser last month. “But his entire claim to fame is all the jobs he created. He took almost all of them from us.”

Issa also jabbed Perry for being a career politician. On Thursday, he praised Romney as the right candidate to put the state and nation’s economy on the right track.

“The country would be well served to have someone who knows how the economy works and has worked in the private sector,” Issa said in the statement. “President Obama never worked in the real economy — we can’t afford to have another president who has spent his career outside the real economy.”

Thank you Allegra.

As you probably know, with ILLEGAL immigration being a big issue for me I'm not a fan of Rick Perry. It's not unusual that a Perry supporter has accused me of being pro-Romney, heck, they have even accused me of being a Ron Paul supporter. Each time they do I think of the times you and I have gone at it with real PaulBots. It's a hoot.

Thanks again. :-)

I hope it is enough to stop him. I am not sure it will be though.

I now see about a 99.9% chance we will have a credible right wing third party candidate to face Romney and Obama in 2012. If so, it likely hands the election to Hussein with a 45% or so plurality.

Well,

How bout we focus on the local elections. Indeed, when you think of some past “extreme” left / right (less right than left) proposals, the public shut them down - think GWB amnesty.

If we keep pushing conservatism from the base up, eventually, we’ll get someone at the top.

Yeah, I’m calling BS on that. I have never seen any FR support for Willard.

When did you try to be for Perry? You’ve been on here slamming him since he got in.

Yes, so did I. In many ways he is a good guy but this is a big negative. It’s hugh.

You have gone off the deep end, ncal!

south40 made his position very clear. I think you are going to have one bad headache in the morning. Might help if you start drinking lots of water.

I've been leaning Perry for a while and thought he had the best chance of defeating Obama.

I was very disappointed with his overall performance in the debates this evening. His defense of the in-state tuition issue has left me underwhelmed.

I've been very impressed with Herman Cain (although I really don't see 9-9-9 as feasible in our current situation) in the last three debates.

Gingrich has also come across very well. I don't see him as president, but I think he would do well somewhere in the next administration. As I told the poster who was freaking out - we still have a way to go yet and the dynamic could shift significantly before the primaries. So, I'm still assessing.

Each time they do I think of the times you and I have gone at it with real PaulBots. It's a hoot.

Yes, that's always been fun. I still visit those threads and have a little fun now and then. I can't resist. :-)

Not this time.

I voted twice for Dubya. Then, in 2006 my suspicions about who he was were proven true when he supported shamnesty.

I held my nose and voted for McLame because of Sarah.

I won’t do it again.

In 2012 I’m voting for a third party candidate or I’m staying home.

Either Romney or Perry will get the GOP nomination and both of those bozos are clueless. Neither will do what’s needed. It will just be more of the same.

I don’t actually know of one person in the state of Alabama whom I have heard of that said they would vote for him.

Har!

He's like a vampire, but sunrise is coming, and he just might not make it back to his tomb.

Exactly! The past three years he’s been busy going behind the scenes taking care of himself/his campaign. He doesn’t give a flip about American other than what it can do for him.

It’s the good old boys club in play here, as usual. I’ll have no part of it in ‘12.

I think today you will see a lovefest for Romney on Fox and in other places. He took control and no one hit him on issues in which they should have so he gains as Perry looks weak.

I think Romney is on a mission to become the first Mormon president of the U.S. And to make up for the humilitation his father suffered during his bid for the presidency.

I admire much about the LDS and I’m not a Romney hater, but he is not the conservative Rick Perry is.

I agree. Romney has been feathering his nest for years and the south knows it.

The presidency isn’t a place for someone who seeks personal healing! I hate lies so that tells you what I think of liars. Mr flip flop, vote for me because it’s my turn, big gov’t wuss! What has he done for America? Where has his voice been these past 3 yrs while obama has been taking our country down? His voice was used for his own personal gain seeking his donors and setting up his campaign strategy.

BTW, he’s NOT a conservative AT ALL! What’s wrong w/you?

What would expect from an establishment RINO?

Remember, when the GOP selected McNutt to run last time, they told Romney his turn was next.

Well, next is here and it’s Romney’s turn. Let’s play fair. It’s the RINO way.
