U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, endorsed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for president on Thursday, a month after assailing his chief rival in a speech in San Diego.
Romney has garnered support from a growing number of congressional Republicans as he battles with Texas Gov. Rick Perry, front-runner for the party nomination according to most polls.
As someone who shares my background in business, Congressman Issa understands that we need to make fundamental changes in Washington, Romney said in a statement. I am proud to have his support and look forward to working with him as I campaign in California and work to bring jobs back to the state and strengthen the American economy.
Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has criticized the way the Lone Star State added hundreds of thousands more jobs than any other state a phenomena dubbed the "Texas Miracle."
Rick Perrys entire claim to fame is that he kicked our ass. You guys can laugh. You can let it out, Issa said at a downtown fundraiser last month. But his entire claim to fame is all the jobs he created. He took almost all of them from us.
Issa also jabbed Perry for being a career politician. On Thursday, he praised Romney as the right candidate to put the state and nations economy on the right track.
The country would be well served to have someone who knows how the economy works and has worked in the private sector, Issa said in the statement. President Obama never worked in the real economy we cant afford to have another president who has spent his career outside the real economy.
South40, just ignore ncalburt. He apparently hasn’t been getting any and he’s frustrated.
So is your Romney brilliant ?
Great idea for Brill-ant Romney to add 2.5 million addition to his mansion during a 3 year recession !
Yes, I have "outed" myself as a Romney supporter by saying "I just lost all respect for this guy [Issa].
Put the bong down, you're making a fool of yourself.
Move on creep !
Actually mix him up with that guy who came out as a homo while married to that HuffPo skank. Cannot recall the name now, (Huff something no doubt, but a RINO that threw away a winnable election) big deal......
All RINOs and ultimately useless..............
I normally ignore posters who appear to be on drugs and that runt appears to be on drugs. I chose to respond so all who read this will know what a dolt he is.
I am curious now that Perry has been severely crippled where you think conservatives should go from here?
Believe me, I am open for suggestions and am looking for some rays of hope.
Having a very hard time seeing them right now though.
many on the right chose to focus on his flaws

Come on!!! Rick Perry destroyed himself. He was an idiot in the last 3 Debates. Check out the Focus Group that FOX News had tonight after the Debate. 60% of the people who came in tonight FOR Perry, switched to Romney after the Debate. Give it up; it’s over. Rick Perry will NOT be the GOP Nominee. The dude just doesn’t have it. Obama would mop the floor with him in the Debates. And, the Presidential Debates are where most Americans make up their mind for whom they will vote.
Issa has a 100% conservative rating by the ACU. So if he is a RINO he has been hiding it well.
Mitt? He's awful.
And I'm not convinced he could beat Obama.
If Obama is re-elected, our nation is finished.
Not sure what you want me to give up though. I have acknowledged Perry has probably been destroyed.
I would ask you what I have asked others tonight. Now that the front-running conservative has been completely marginalized, where exactly do you suggest conservative voters go?
I now see a Romney candidacy barreling full speed ahead, and he will soon have the full force of the GOP party apparatus behind him. How do you recommend we stop it?
I like Cain and he has an enormous advantage over the other candidates in that he would get much of the black vote. I also believe he would get much of the independent vote just as Obama did in 2008. Given these factors I think he defeat Obama and he is by far more conservative than Romney or Perry ever have been or ever will be. But it is early still, a point that I have made many times in Perry threads -- so there is no need to support any lesser conservative at this time. If Cain doesn't go anywhere I'll go from there but I would never and could never vote for a pro-abortion candidate and Romney is a pro-abortion candidate.
I know one thing for sure.
Neither will Romney, because there won't be a GOP if that happens.
I like Cain a lot too. I can't imagine him winning the Presidency as his first elected office, but it would be great if he could.
I hope we can still find a conservative to stop Romney and then beat Obama, but I am definitely not optimistic at the moment.
While I suspect there are a few closet Romney- supporters skulking around FR, I can assure you that South 40 isn’t one of them.
Take a deep breath...Romney is awful, but a few endorsements do not seal the election.
We’ve got a way to go yet.
Thats easy
Ask him why the Romneys don't do military service, going back a generation or two.
I have never seen a bigger collection of clowns on stage before outside of a Circus.
This MF is on every side of every issue and he's now the front runner?.
Hell will freeze over before I vote for that coward scumbag con man.
I don’t think Romney could win the nomination, at least I hope he can’t. If he did I would have to vote either 3rd party or sit this one out as I could never vote for a pro-abortion candidate.
Don’t count Perry out yet FRiend.
He has never lost an election and he can be pretty fiesty. He is obviously having a hard time getting his sea legs under him with these debates but he is still a strong candidate despite all the hatred on FR.
I don’t hear ANYONE express admiration for Romney in my little world and I enjoy talking politics with folks. I am also a Southern transplant and doubt the South will not embrace Romney.
The media has been a non-stop barrage of negative stories on Perry and the only mentions of Romney build him up. It’s McCain all over again!
