The NINE(!) Candidates:
Michele Bachmann
Bachmann is serving her 3rd full term in the U.S. House. Founder of the House Tea Party Caucus, worked as a tax attorney, and was a foster mother for 23 teenagers. She is a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Herman Cain
Cain is the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza and former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He lost the Georgia Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in 2004. He was recently the host of Atlanta-based radio show.
Newt Gingrich
Gingrich served as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999. He represented Georgia's 6th congressional district as a Republican member from 1979 to 1999. He has a PhD in modern European history.
Jon Huntsman
Huntsman was Utah Governor, former ambassador to China under Barack Obama.
Ron Paul
Paul is serving his 11th full term in the U.S. House. Hes an ob-gyn and was Libertarian nominee for president in 1988. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for president in 2008
Rick Perry
Perry is the three term governor of Texas, from 2000 to current. He is a retired Air Force captain for former farmer. He has a degree in animal science.
Mitt Romney
Romney was governor of Massachusetts (2003 to 2007) and former CEO of Bain Capital, a private equity investment firm. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican 2008 nomination for president. He has an MBA (Harvard) and JD (Harvard Law).
Rick Santorum
Santorum served two terms in the U.S. House and two terms in the U.S. Senate. He became the Senate's third-ranking Republican in 2001. He was defeated for reelection in 2006.
Gary Johnson
Johnson served as governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2002. He founded what would become one of the largest construction companies in New Mexico. He has competed in several triathlons and climbed Mount Everest.
Huntsman is hardly a better choice. I suspect him and his father of actually engaging in labor brokering for cheap illegal aliens working in the high plains.
No—I won’t. Perry is worse than Obama ....Immigration. New tab line.
marking, funny.
Perry hurt himself VERY badly last night in many, many ways. Did you watch the debate? Did you hear the audience reaction when he spoke about paying for the education of illegals? Check the polls on this also...
Perry's demeanor was not very good...his speech at times was halting. In my opinion, I think that there's a slim chance that he can recover from these debates...he has not won one of them. Aside from that, many Republicans and conservatives have had enough Texas governors for a while in the presidency...another one who makes noise like a "compassionate conservative?" NO THANK YOU...
He’s a used car salesman times 10!!!
I agree that all of the extra fees imposed do significantly increase the cost of attending a university. ....The focus was on tuition, though, and I only picked the Univ. of TX as it is probably the most expensive State school.
IF there are illegal kids here....to hell with their education...send them back to their own country to get educated. THEY’RE I L L E G A L !!!!! Throw them out!!
IF SCHOOLS are knowingly educating ILLEGALS, they are to held to the same standard as any company that is HIRING ILLEGALS. FINE THE SCHOOLS!
The only thing I want Newt to explain is his sitting down with Nazi Pelicanosi on that couch for that ad. EVERYTHING else is irrelevant with the Republic on the brink of annihilation.
How about Katy Perry in 2012!
I just did a simple Google and the 2010-2011 data is what came up.
I may be totally off base with my understanding of the BS that flowed out of Romney’s mouth while he was trying so hard to bash Texas and Perry.
When I heard Perry saying $22,000 a year and $100,000 for four years, I knew that “brilliant businessman” was screwed up with his numbers.
I still don’t understand the point he was trying to make, other than another opportunity to trash Perry.
(I think Perry should ask Romney to go jogging with him on one of the wilderness trails :) )
If your kids lived in Texas for 3 years, they qualify.
You grossly exaggerate the influence of debates on primary outcomes. They just don’t matter much. Neither does immigration in general, and the tuition business is ridiculously trivial. It is a matter of concern to very few voters, most of whom will gravitate to Perry in the end anyway because the only realistic alternative is much, much worse. Of course it’s easy to see how you might be confused about this because advocating amnesty was fatal to McCain’s campaign in ‘08 — Oh wait . . .
There’s no point in having this argument now. Wait and watch. If I turn out to be wrong you can gloat. But that isn’t likely to happen. I’ve only been wrong about one primary contest in either party since 1968. I thought immigration would kill McCain in ‘08. You’re repeating my one mistake.
In the absence of a new entry, Perry will walk away with this race while the chattering class scratches it’s collective head and mutters “he was so bad in the debates.” Of course he was, but it doesn’t matter. It never matters.
Most major politicians are verbal incompetents, including the incumbent President. For some reason, voters seem to prefer inarticulate candidates. I may not like it, but that doesn’t change the facts.
You can’t beat something with nothing, and so far, there’s nothing in Perry’s path to the nomination. Fulminate all you like, that’s just how it is.
Look: if Perry is the nominee I will get up early that day and vote for him...no question. BUT, there is NO WAY he will do as well as Romney debating Obummer...and that will mean much to the independents, without whom we cannot win.
>>>>I still dont understand the point he was trying to make, other than another opportunity to trash Perry.
Mitt was saying if you are US citizen and out of state, you will pay higher tuition fee in Texas. If you are legal immigrant, you will pay higher tuition fee. If you are legal foreign student you will be paying highest tuition fee.
But if you are illegal , you will pay state subsidized tuition fee.
So if you break a law, we will reward you.
Excellent.
EXACTLY!!!
Anyone staying home in 2012 or engaging in conduct or actions that help Maobama get a second term should be forbidden from complaining about him in 2012 if he gets reelected.
Perry is worse than Obama? Are you effing kidding me? Please tell me you are joking? Forgot to take your meds? Really a troll? or just plain ignorant? Listen to me, NOBODY, READ MY LIPS, NOBODY on that stage in that debate last night is worse than OBAMA. NOBODYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you lost your mind? Obama is better than Perry? I think you belong over at DUmmieland.
I agree.
