McCotter, who struggled to gain traction against better-financed rivals and failed to achieve the necessary support to be invited to Republican debates, announced that he would now support former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the Republican primary.

“Thaddeus Kosciusko”

A much better choice. Gen’l Washington’s greatest engineer in the Continental Army. Here’s hoping McCotter is named for him.

It was absurd of Thad McCotter to run in the first place. Now he’s seeking reelection, but has a serious primary. His opponent is saying that McCotter promised him he was in the Presidential race to stay. If so, he went back on his word.

To be fair, what was McCotter supposed to say? “I’m running for president, but I expect to be knocked out long before we even have the first primary and will return to my House race after that”? *Of course* he said that he was in the presidential race “to stay,” that’s what he’s supposed to say.

Did he actually say “I will not be a candidate for reelection to the House, and would encourage conservatives to file for the seat,” or did he merely say “I expect to be our party’s presidential nominee, which would mean that I won’t be able to run for reelection”? Huge difference among those two quotes.

Thad in one word.

I understand why he ran, terrible field so he thought he might have a shot, he was decidedly wrong as almost everyone else expected.

I wanted him to run for Senate instead but happily now we have Pete Hoekstra in the race who is superior to McCotter in both conservatism and electablity, in my estimation.

I expected he’d get back in the race for his house seat though I didn’t know that he (allegedly) promised not to. This is a very common welch move when quitting a race for higher office.

And of course he’s now for Mitt, they were both pro-bailout yes? (yes I know the poor sod is from Michigan so he “had no choice”tm but to support the illegal GM bailout so I’ve cut him slack on that)

I don’t know a thing about his primary challenger State Senator Mike Kowall other than the fact he’s blessed with the feared power of the ‘stache. If he’s to the right of or the same as McCotter then I hope he wins.

Bye, bye, McCotter. Interesting candidate.

In re the "debate" last night. The analystos all thought Romney won. Not me. I thought Bachmann looked the best. The Romney/Perry feud was silly, since both of them are very weak on immigration, and both, IMH-and uninformed about Perry-O, smell like RINO meat to me.

But you know what, I turned a corner last night. All good news. Newt was slimmer and sharp. Cain was a breath of fresh air. Johnson, Huntsman That group was splendid. Any man or woman jack of'em could take Barry-o down. Now, all we need is a PROGRAM a PLAN and a LEADER to sell an implement it. The group I saw last night could produce all three.

Newt said something rather ominous last night ... and it's more than likely quite accurate. He said that in his opinion, repair of the obamadamage to the nation and the economy would take the next President 8 YEARS!

I think it took 20 years for us to recover from FDR’s bungling (although Hoover’s liberal approach paved the way for FDR).

I think Newt and Herman Cain are looking good. I thought Santorum did extremely well too. I don’t know a thing about Johnson so I’ll have to hear him a little more.

I thought he was a school teacher.

LOL!!!

Back in the day, "Welcome Back, Kotter" was one of the few sitcoms I watched.

McCotter may be Kotter's Irish alter-ego.

Thanks Free Vulcan. In 2008, Duncan Hunter endorsed Mike Huckabee, Fred Thompson endorsed John McCain, Jim Robinson endorsed McCain-Palin, and in 2011 McCotter...
...announced that he would now support former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the Republican primary.
Romney can get the fence-sitters -- while losing at least an equal number of conservatives. I'll vote for any Republican for President over Zero -- except for Newt; and even Newt on the VP will I tolerate.
