Dueling pitchers Rick Perry and Mitt Romney will face off tonight for the third time in three weeks in Republican presidential debates.
Perry won the first game by throwing plenty of heat and Romney prevailed the second time with finesse pitches and lots of help on offense from other players. Now, its time for the rubber game? As they head into the FOX News/Google debate ahead of the Republican Party of Floridas straw poll, the stakes for Romney and Perry are huge.
Romney has seen his own support solidify following Perrys blazing entrance to the race last month. But the former Massachusetts governor has to prove that it is more than just a political version of cash for clunkers in which people who were eventually going to back Romney anyway just moved up their decisions. As the milder of the two, Romney faces an enthusiasm gap with Perry. Romney has been trying to close the gap by dampening the ardor of Perrys supporters by raising questions about the Texas governors electablity. But as Power Play often notes, the problem with running an electability campaign is that primary voters tend to resent candidates who make the opposing partys arguments for them.

To have a matching set? Johnson/Huntsman?
Yep and I give Newt some credit for rheaming the media a whole new anus when they try to get them all to fight.Cain is someone to watch.Bachmann is astute and knows what it really takes to repeal ObamaCare.
Romney is desperate political toast. He already released his VP choices.I wish Romney would drop out.Oh and Huntsmen reminds me of a infomercial from the dark side.
Debates are not decisive and they are only for political junkies to talk about. Daily campaigning, political ads, and media interviews are more effective, more decisive, and would sway much more opinions than debates do.
“Nothing will happen for the next year?”
This is about the GOP primaries, selecting delegates to the party convention, and coming up with a nominee. That will all take place starting in late January. Within 6 weeks of the IA caucus a single frontrunner will likely be decided, and then it’s all geared to the general election.
There was a thread on here about #x NH state legislators endorsing Perry. The presumption has been that Romney had NH wrapped up as, if not a favorite son, as the boy next door. Governors and state legislators, who have the ground troops, are starting to decide now. That affords the endorsees a lot of in-state support as s/he faces the primaries. So, a LOT will be going on in the next several months. A year from how, as to the in-party fight, it is all over. I’d wager that that aspect will be over by March.
Really, we already have a couple of "Johnsons" on the state already...
shoot, state = stage.
The primary elections start in about 3 months. This thing will be decided within 6 months.
Just watch to see if johnson has oreos on the podium in case of a munchie attack.
I have not heard how many more of these pre-primary debates they are going to televise before the end of the year. I expect they will not have many more. Then, when the debates are over, before the holiday season starts, the media will take Perry and Romney and the polls will say they are two “leaders” and they will get the most attention, and interviews until the serious primary campaigning and voting begins. So, the debates will have served their purpose of narrowing the field, primarily for the media. In this way, the media through the primary voting process can settle, pre-convention, who the candidate will be, instead of the people and their delegates deciding at the convention.
Just watch to see if johnson has oreos on the podium in case of a munchie attack.

hahaha! Or if he gets lizard mouth like that Anita Dunn lady did. I think that’s her name. (the Mao lover)
It always works out so well when we do that.
Decisive for now might be for the Florida straw poll coming right up. So far, perry has a lock on it. If it’s gonna change, he would really have to blow it tonight. He has a quick temper and the longknives will be out, so he will have to really exercise some self-control. He can, but it might appear to ne a strain, so it really depends on how he handles himself. He has to look natural and comfortable.
All of the controllers want this wrapped up soon, before any actual voters get involved.
Well. I expect huntsman will offer him some milk for his cookies. That night help. Then again, he might just end up with a silly looking mustache. Lord, I hope they don’t let him talk. ron paul is embarrassing enough for us.
mccain used to drive me insane with that snakey, darty tongue thing and those beady eyes.
Is it me or do Huntsman and Johnson have a feminine air about them?
They tried to pick Romney but it failed.Romney desperately released his VP list long ago he is finito ObamneyCare is political toast. You can’t change the mess that is ponzi scheme DC overnight. One freshmen tea party member at a time and fast forward the process. We will get there.
(I can’t stand how Romney stares down others when they are talking in the debates. He is too arrogant to look at his notes.)
Huntsmen does in a warped adams family dark side metro sexual way.
Effete, elite, metrosexual. Yep. I think that’s why johnson tries so had to prove he is a man’s man...mountain climbing and all that.
