LANSING, Mich. (AP) A former Democratic state lawmaker is switching to the Republican Party and will launch a campaign Wednesday for U.S. Rep. Dale Kildee's seat, The Associated Press has learned.
Ex-Rep. Jim Slezak of Genesee County's Davison Township says in a release that he's making the switch to the GOP and kicking off his campaign Wednesday for the 5th District seat that Kildee, a Democrat, has held for more than three decades.
The AP was given an advance copy of the release and an early look at Slezak's announcement video.

Trojan horse.
Prolly a blooming RINO.
This just proves that rats will abandon a sinking ship.
I smell a RAT!
We usually use them to fill in the numbers needed to get a majority in a legislative body.
The Democrat Solid South was broken with this method.
Who cares. It is a solid Commie seat to begin with. If this Nooby can win, it will just be one more embarrassment for the Rat party in a long list of them. If not, nothing lost.
> pro-gun and pro-life BUT he is/was an Obot
You can’t be pro-gun and pro-life and be an 0bot.
He’s either stupid, schizophrenic or a liar.
Either way, he’s unqualified.
I predict that will be happening alot in the next year.
typical MI democrat. he’s in the same group with dingell and a couple others. truth be told, they’ve always been more republican than dem.
that does not make them conservative, but they’re probably further to the right than mccain.
Two, count them, two dem running for the same seat????
How can they lose? Hope a Republican runs in the primary against this kind of thing.
They could just be doing some more dem dirty tricks...........
Let him run and WIN then change to a Repub. I might believe he’s had a change of heart, then, maybe.
John Conyers also faces a democrat challenger in his district. Its why he fought shifting district lines so hard.
It’s like in New York City. The Dems are to the left of Trotsky, so the more moderate Dems run as Republicans. Case in point, Mayor Bloomberg, who was a registered Democrat until he wanted to run for office in 2001.
Right Michigan actually has mostly good things to say about him. He beat a tax raising incumbent in the primary. He's pro-life and pro-2nd Amendment, which is not uncommon for democrats in the Flint suburbs.
The only two state democrats he donated to was Gleason, another moderate democrat who is also pro-life and pro-gun, and Gerald Masters who I know nothing about. Nothing is listed federally. He worked on Lee Gonzalez (another state rep in Flint) campaign and is a good friend of Joe Lieberman's son.
If I had to guess, I'd guess that he's fiscally populist and social conservative. Somewhat of a Reagan democrat with a labor streak.
Slezak isn't a Crist. He might vote for a labor measures, but he was conservative on social issues which is in line with much of his district. This is a labor area and a lot of folks here vote their union card.
If he pulls off the upset and wins, I think he'll be similar to Jim Barcia. Barcia is a good guy for a democrat.
Actually if you look at the new districts Conyers is not running in his old district.
That’s why there is the face-off between Peters & Clarke!
