APNewsBreak: CA Police Officer Charged With Murder (Kelly Thomas beating)
ABC News/AP ^ | September 21, 2011 | GILLIAN FLACCUS

A defense lawyer says a police officer has been charged with murder in the death of a mentally ill homeless man in Southern California.

Attorney John Barnett says his client, Fullerton police Officer Manuel Ramos, surrendered to authorities Wednesday and was being charged with second-degree murder.

The Orange County district attorney's office was set to announce the charge in the death of 37-year-old Kelly Thomas after a violent confrontation on July 5 with Fullerton officers.

Six officers were placed on paid administrative leave after the incident that occurred while police were investigating reported vehicle break-ins at a transit hub.

Thomas suffered severe head and neck injuries and was taken off life support five days later.

The feds will wait until the outcome of the state case before prosecuting. If the state does its job, the feds may be satisfied with that. If not, the feds will act.

True, just a poorly laid out metaphor to describe the anger evident in the local residents.

I would think, not being an expert, that sort of charge may be part of that civil rights investigation.

If you are "white"....you probably won't see a "civil rights investigation".

So expect them ALL to be charged!

I really hope they are.

That whole thing was very disturbing.

The DA’s personal physician must have diagnosed him with a severe allergy to tar and feathers.

Oh come one...you and I have both seen what the victim looked like. Anyone who stood by while that happened and didn’t realize that 1) this is seriously wrong and 2)I better stop this now, is too stupid to be a cop. The victim was suffering life threatening if not life ending injuries.

Cops have a higher standard (or should) than the average citizen. They are supposed to serve and protect. They failed, but they not only failed, they passively empowered and therefore are guilty. Just like the driver of a getaway car.

MMmmm.. I dunno. They had a lot of riot police out. Just in case. People are pretty hot. Probably not the whole city. Maybe just city hall.

From what I saw in a you-tube video tape that was quickly taken down when the story broke, they were all involved in the young man’s death. One cop was involved in trying to hold back witnesses and, in fact, abused a witness who was yelling for them to stop “killing” the guy to make an example of him and make everyone else afraid to object or intervene. They should all be charged and let a jury decide.

From what I have seen in discussions with cops some of them really beleive they are above the law and they can torture, kill and abuse anyone they want in society. Americans have to see to it that all of those idiots are put in prison if they really act like they belch on the internet. We are going to look like Mexico if we fail to do that. Then, all cops, politicans and citizens will be in danger.

Fullerton citizens have been paying attention and have been active in droves. That is what brought some hint of justice here. The politicans got scared and could not run their usual Union protection racket.

We really all have to be active in this problem if we come across it in our communities. Citizens can change it and cops can be made afraid to punish, torture and murder citizens and politicans can be made afriad to cover it up.

If the past is repeated, the unions will react by slowing work down and cops will stop enforcing the law to get even with the community for being held to the rule of law and professional standards for a while. Then, if citizens will stay engaged, politicans will bring in real professionals to clean out the dog mess.

This degree of police corruption we are seeing across the country, won’t be fixed over night. It is a culture that has to be changed across the board.

I promised you a reply when the investigation is complete so this is it. You were wrong, I was correct.

Not so fast. The feds are still investigating this. Before serving crow up to dragnet2, you might want to wait a bit. Otherwise, you might end up being the recipient of the crowfeast.

Okay...I will just say it. Most folks that live in Fullerton...are probably still white.

I lived there in the late 70's-early 80's..

Let's face it...if the guy was Brown or Black that got beat to death...there would be violence.

Whites generally don't react that way...nowadays.

You’re one of the most disingenuous individuals on this site.

Your first posts to that thread, you immediately attempted to discredit the victim that was beat to death. Then when I and others told you there was video, multiple witnesses who corroborated each others statements, you repeatedly stated: “Let’s wait until the investigation is complete”…..Yet your very first posts were meant to directly discredit the dead young man.

But it wasn’t enough to discredit the victim, you immediately brought up an assault incident involving the dead guy, but you failed to mention that incident occurred 16 years ago, which was also attributed to the onset of his illness.

_____________________________________________________________________________ 29 posted by Berlin_Freeper: Excuse me, not “gentle giant”...but rather this “’very quiet and polite’, ‘gentle and childlike’, ‘sweet’, and ‘never a threat’” person was convicted for assault with a deadly weapon.

69 posted by Berlin_Freeper: So let me point out to you that a kick from 135 pound suspect would be just as powerful as a punch from a 200 pound person.

Berlin_Freeper: That doesn't necessarily mean any policemen are "guilty", as you declare them.

You were told repeatably, my comments were based on the story, and witness statements from multiple articles.

When another person called them “Pigs” I responded in #57 “Not all”.

Does that sound like a cop hater?

#61 I asked you: * Based* on witness statements, and the outcome, do you feel 6 large officers beating to death an unarmed, 135 pound suspect is reasonable?

#78 You were told repeatedly: My posts are based on multiple witness statements, video, audio, photographs, in addition to the fact that the suspect was *not* armed, the fact at least one of the officers have already been named in other questionable beating, in addition to the fact that witnesses all stated there were 5 to 6 cops beating one *unarmed* suspect with fists and flashlights...the fact they tased him multiple times, and the fact that suspect died as a result of this brutal beating, which witnesses described as not a beating, but a brutal murder.

You responded by changing the subject and implied I am a cop hater multiple times.

80 posted by Berlin_Freeper: It’s not like a Cop Hater is ever going to spend a single minute posting about a police officer killed in the line of duty by a suspect resisting arrest and refusing to be taken in alive.

127 posted by Berlin_Freeper: If the charges come in against anything less than six policemen, then remember me calling you a Monster. You declared them all guilty.

You lie, my post were based on statements by witnesses. I never once stated “They were all guilty”.

118 by Berlin_Freeper: So it could turn out that one policeman was using too much force.

What they hell did ya base this on? 2 have already been charged, facing multiple felony charges, with 4 others still being investigated and on leave.

I asked you in #136: So, you're now suggesting it could only be one officer? Question #1. Tell me, how is that possible, when multiple witness statements say it was 6 officers beating one unarmed mentally ill individual?

Question#2. Tell me Berlin Freeper, are you suggesting it's reasonable for 5 officers to just stand and watch one officer beat and unarmed individual to death?

Then you had the balls to state this:

140 posted by Berlin_Freeper: Just as I expected - you don't have a single sworn witness statement.

I stated in 161: My comments were all based on the *story*, witness statements, and what we already know. You were the *first* to discredit the victim in support of the police, on an incident that occurred over *16* years ago.

#161 Then, when asked if you thought this incident was reasonable, based on what we already know, in post 63 you stated the following: “It is kind of ironic that you are so quick to fault the police for using force against a resisting suspect, yet very willing to Troll me for an answer.”

Ya tell everyone the suspect was resisting, and then you turn around and state:

"I will wait for the investigation to be complete before commenting.”

You are one disingenuous piece of work.

Here's the victim you attempted to discredit in your first posts.

Not so fast yourself, see post 59 as I already mentioned that.

As for dragnet2, he was pinging me for three weeks, insisting that all 6 policemen beat this suspect to death. I told him wait for the investigation because it could be that a single cop was hitting this guy too hard on the head.

From the investigation we now know that I was almost entirely correct. A cop was hitting him too hard on the head. Add to that the taser cop which makes for two cops, not all six.

I am not the one serving crow here. I was posted about and defended myself.

B.F. if you were a cop and were there...and just watched 2 cops beat a guy to death. Would you be guilty of something?

I see. Mr. Let's-Wait-For-The-Investigation-To-Finish doesn't need to wait for the feds to finish their investigation before pronouncing himself correct.

First you posted about me in a very cowardly way in this thread:

“Some guy living in Berlin, who posts here, kept telling me that, even with video and multiple corroborating witness statements.”

And misrepresented what I posted about this case.

Your selective quoting and poor mixing of comments (perhaps you are too excited to do a decent job of separation?) only shows the chip you have on your shoulder against me for not accepting that all six police beat this man to death, which we now know - not all of them did.

Your own crazy failed attempt at quoting here shows that:

“118 by Berlin_Freeper: So it could turn out that one policeman was using too much force. “

You left out your numerous responses to me insisting that all six beat him to death. You also left out the numerous Trolling pings for weeks to me, when I stopped repeating myself for you.

I was correct, you were wrong. I accept the findings of the investigation that I waited for and the charges brought against two bad cops. If you have issues then I am sure there are emails and phone numbers you can contact. I am not receiving your complaints any further.

Your crazy attempt to demonize me here says more about you than it does me.

“B.F. if you were a cop and were there...and just watched 2 cops beat a guy to death. Would you be guilty of something?”

Osage Orange, the man died days later. How would the cops know the man was beat to death?

You make it sound like two cops killed a man dead on the street and the others did nothing.

Perhaps you are not aware of the basic facts?
