Opie Taylor: Tax the Rich
The Daily Caller ^ | 09/21/2011 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 09/21/2011 10:53:03 AM PDT by martosko

Life was simpler in the fictional town of Mayberry, N.C., where “The Andy Griffith Show” was set, and images of Sheriff Andy Taylor and his son Opie evoke a more prosperous America. But did the mystique of that setting include a 90 percent tax rate on the wealthy?

On MSNBC Wednesday, appearing from the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., director and producer Ron Howard said he would be open to the wealthy paying more taxes.

While I’m sure Mr. Howard is qualified to discuss the TV/filmmaking industry, what are his qualifications to discuss this topic?

In today’s Gallup poll, 66% want higher taxes on those earning $200K+, because they’re convinced it’ll create jobs.

God bless their idealistic little hearts and have mercy on their muddled, simple minds.

Ron Howard said he would be open to the wealthy paying more taxes.

How nice of him to be "open" to the idea of taking other peoples' money.

There's nothing stoppimg you from cutting a big check to the government. Or how about all the proceeds from your next film go to the federal coffers instead?

Looks like Potsie and Ralph Malph were the smart ones in that trio after all.

This is America. If you're a celebrity, you're an expert on EVERYTHING.

Probably because he’s rich. On the other hand he’s bald. He could also advocate a bald tax for all bald men...or perhaps a tax on hair.

There is nothing that prevents all of these wealthy people who claim they should be paying more in taxes from cutting a check and giving it to the government. The feds will take it willingly.

Both of them and Joanie were at Dragoncon a few years ago and they struck me as way more genuine than Opie could ever be.

Next idea please.

Just another example of

the lower class tend to be democrats,
the middle & upper class tend to be republicans

and the very wealthy tend to be communists.

Griffith and Howard have become an embarrassment to their Americana persona. Two Obama loving liberals who care nothing about freedom and liberty.

If it wasn't for Don Knots, my AGS watching would be over, forever!

Ron Howard, release your tax returns. What amount have you paid in excess than required?

Why do you want children to starve?

Back when the marginal top rates were 90%..the rich still didn’t pay much tax. For one..many losses and depreciation was deductible without limits. So with realestate..you borrowed as much as you could against it and deducted the interest and depreciation. I know..with the higher rates I was paying zero taxes because of realestate investments. The Reagan tax reform lowered the tax rates and raised my taxes.

When are these dopey Hollywood types going to learn that the gov't produces nothing? If you don't mind paying more taxes, go ahead and make a tax donation to the IRS, but don't force those who might actually use the money in a productive effort to follow suit. If Howard, Buffet, and the other idiots who want to pay higher taxes really want to do something good for job creation, just form a venture capital firm and give grants out for new enterprises. That would do much more good that sending the cash into that black hole called Washington.

Just as an interesting little factoid, Ron Howard’s brother Clint does not share his political views. He is a declared conservative.

http://www.politico.com/click/stories/1010/a_proud_hollywood_conservative.html

Regards,

PS: Everybody knows Clint Howard. As a child actor, he appeared in the Andy Griffith show many times, was Mark on Gentle Ben, Balok in the Star Trek (TOS) episode, “The Corbomite Maneuver”, and the voice of Roo in one of the Winnie the Pooh movies. As an adult, he has had parts in most of his brother’s movies, including, of course, as one of the Mission Control guys in Apollo 13.
