Marines Hit the Ground Running in Seeking Recruits at Gay Center

TULSA, Okla. — Master Sgt. Anthony Henry, a top Marine recruiting trainer for the southwestern United States, pulled up to Tulsa’s biggest gay community center on Tuesday morning and left his Chevy where he could make a fast getaway. “I have an exit strategy,” he said. “I know where my choke points are, I’ve strategically parked my car right on the curbside, I have an out.”

But as it happened, one of the strangest days in the history of the United States Marine Corps unfolded without the protests and insults that Sergeant Henry had feared. Sergeant Henry, who had been invited to set up a recruiting booth on the first day of the end of “don’t ask, don’t tell” at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center in downtown Tulsa, instead spent it in quiet conversation with a trickle of gay women who came in to ask about joining the Marines.

I predict ...that very few of them will actually sign up. And that very few of them will actually continue to serve.

We’ll see extrapolated stories of one or maybe even TWO marines who are serving, who appear normal, etc. ...but for the most part, things will go on as usual.

Gays never were an issue in the military — it’s our Democratic politicians who made it an issue — and who want to take the credit.

Gays ain’t gonna join up on droves ...they’re too scared to fight. Too much money in fashion and graphic design, in jouranlism, etc.

My husband has been an enlisted man in the army for 21 years. Barracks justice is not tolerated and hasn’t been for a very long time.

Hubby and I have discussed this issue at length and I’ve asked him what his position will be if DADT is repealed.

The thing is, he’s a by-the-book professional. He’ll keep good order and conduct and require the same, high standards with homosexual troops that he requires from everyone else.

I think that it comes as a shock to new recruits that their senior NCO’s are as involved in their personal lives as they are. In the civilian world, your boss doesn’t care if you got a ticket or got into a bar fight last weekend. In the military, holding yourself to a high standard is expected all of the time. Here at Ft Hood, senior NCO’s go out with the cops on bar patrol every Friday night. My husband has gone on a couple of these runs. They hit all the strip clubs and bars and let their presence be known. Soldiers stick out like a sore thumb and the NCO’s approach them and remind them that they are soldiers every minute of the day.

The military is not a party and homosexuals are going to have all of the same restrictions that everyone else has.

As far as I know, sodomy (even between husband and wife) is still illegal according to the UCMJ. They’re going to have to change that if they’re allowing homosexuals to serve openly. As of right now, that’s a serious conflict between policy and law.

During my Navy time on a carrier in the Med during a 9 month deployment, there were several sailors who went overboard during the night hours. Most were deemed to be done due to their gay approaches to men. ....As you and someone further upthread indicated, I would expect men to counter such in a similar way. ....Truly terrible decision by this government to ruin our military by allowing homos ( male and female) openly into service. They are, in my opinion very different emotionally. ...Wasn’t it a gay soldier who hacked sensitive data and provided it to Wikileaks because he was spurned by his gay lover? Last night, my USMC alumni husband commented to me about a picture he saw on AOL. It was on the front page and it depicted two Marines about to kiss. He told me, "If I would have seen that when I was in, I would have landed a punch that knocked them both out.".

I was really struck by his comment because he generally never comments about current affairs and because he's always been proud of his service in the Marines. Last night, I saw that this truly hurt him. The freaks are destroying this Nation.

Fear not, the enlisted men will take care iof this “problem” in the way EM have done so in all the branches since the beginning.

I would not want to be a Platoon Leader or Company/Battery Commander in this environment. You have enough to deal with in accomplishing your mission without this nonsense.
