They may invent something someday that makes the infantryman obsolete, but I can assure you it won't happen in our lifetimes or our children's lifetimes.

Their presence on the battlefield is already far reduced from what it was only a few years ago. They will always be there but in much more specialized roles and/or they will be mercenaries.
