The Justice Department spent more than $120 million in fiscal 2008 and 2009 to host law enforcement conferences across the country, many of which featured "extravagant and wasteful" costs for food, beverages and event planning, including spending $16 on each of 250 muffins served at an August 2009 legal conference in Washington, D.C., a report said Tuesday...
... another conference featured a lunch that cost $76 per person and coffee costing more than $1 per ounce. Other costly items cited in the report included a $32-per-person snack break consisting of Cracker Jacks, popcorn and candy bars, $7.32 Beef Wellington hors doeuvres, $10 cookies and $5 Swedish meatballs.

I will charge only $15... can I have the contract?
That’s all that senior administrators do in federal agencies, go from meeting to meeting, and conference to conference, all on the taxpayers’ dime.
Well, the people at the top are enjoying Kobe beef and trips to Spain courtesy the taxpayer, so why shouldn’t the people below them have the same privileges?!
not unless your remaining $ go to wages and pensions for your union muffin makers.
You don’t expect Obama/Holder’s people to eat muffins from the Grocery Store like a struggling American family? If I had my way they would eat muffins from a Box and food from Sam’s Club...I bet I could bring it in for 1/2 their cost.
Hey, Bob! Post of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And now, back to my muffin!
You really need to know more about the details about these supposedly extravagant banquet charges before being too critical. I negotiate bookings for meetings, and review bills, all the time, and frequently find that the types of properties where meetings and conferences are held can be real SOB’s on charges. They may give you a meeting room but then charge you $16 per muffin, $150/gallon for coffee, and $200 screen and flip charge rental; the group in the adjacent meeting room may have paid $500 for the meeting room but only $4.95 per person for coffee and muffins. Banquet charges are pretty squishy; you have to look at the total bill.
I guess the person who ordered this food also orders for Pelosi?
Bwahaha!
Muffin Man with Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart.
But we can’t possibly find any cuts.
Its maddening.
They won’t cut until they are simply deprived of our money.
The Federal government owns half the buildings in DC, why do they need to get a private conference room?
>>> Taxpayers foot the bill for Justice Departments $16 muffins
Taxpayers foot the bill for First Lady’s Office $160 per muffin
(because the wookie demands caviar on top)
Why, indeed.
I remember all the noise about the $500 hammer.
Here is the “money” quote (no pun intended):
“The report noted that the department hosted or participated in 1,832 conferences in fiscal 2008 and 2009, costing a total of $121 million.”
Wait, it gets better: I just heard the network news report on this on the radio at the half hour, saying that the conference expenses DOUBLED between 2008 (Bush) and 2009 (Zero). Holder’s peeps spent $79,000,000.00 on conferences in
‘09! And look what we get for it: Black Panther voter intimidation suits dropped, Gitmo open, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed trial still pending, suits against states that enforce immigration and gunrunning to Mexican drug lords and so much more! Taxpayers are really getting their money’s worth out of those conferences.
Most corrupt administration in history? I don’t know, but they have to be in the running.
But do you know the Muffin Man?
