Newly released photographs of the deadly Nevada air racing disaster suggest the pilot in the crash may have become dislodged in the cockpit as a result of a broken seat, an aviation mechanic tells Fox News.

Good point. In my opinion, both races and air shows are valuable and worthwhile.
My uncle who taught me the basics of flying is 72, still flies and still instructs.

>>And with respect, for you to say that the plane was a mere “plaything” for Jim Leeward is ... well, I’d like to smack you upside the head for that. <<
I already backed off.
And if you laid a hand on me, I promise you, you would regret it.
Let's not be playing silly semantic games.
When you shoot down an airplane, death of the occupant(s) is a common consequence.

No ****, Sherlock.
As for me feeling like "smacking you upside the head" for your "plaything" comment, of course I hope and trust you know I was speaking figuratively ... had you made that comment in the company of some of the aviation enthusiasts I know ... all I can say, is you certianly would have gotten an earful of figurative smacking upside the head.
Again, I think you showed nice class and understanding here, my idea of a worthy FReeper. I hope someday you go to an airshow and enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed the ones I've been to! Then you'll see what I mean -- seeing the Warbirds on the ground is nothing like seeing them in the air!
Cool! Peace.
Thanks, FRiend.
Could be ... I really don't know. I'm sure this photo (and others) will be used in the investigation.
A coworker filmed a lot of this incident ... but not the actual crash. She was filming them coming around the turn and this plane going out of control. Not sure if it's usable for the investigators, but she's been trying to contact them to see if they need it.
I have never been to the Reno Air Races but living so close I’ve always wanted to go.
I have a question...
Do you think it possible to place the grandstands in the center of the race course so the aircraft fly around the outside of the spectators or have I misunderstood the layout.
You aren’t from Colfax, Ca. are you?
How about you?
I’m from Norcal, about 102 miles east of Reno off INT 80, near Auburn.
I want to attend one of the Reno Air Races so bad, but haven’t been able to yet.
The reason I asked is a co-worker “recently retired” named “FINNY”... was an avid race fan.
I sure hope there’ll be a future Reno Air Race for you to attend!
