GOP presidential front-runner Rick Perry was in New York today delivering a speech in defense of Israels sovereignty.
Back at home, Texas Tea Party activists had their own press conference to call attention to Perrys inattention to home state border and sovereignty issues:
Texas Tea Party leaders are unhappy with Gov. Rick Perrys immigration-related positions and want him to call another special legislative session to give state lawmakers a third opportunity to ban sanctuary cities.
**snip**
More from the Texas Tea Party:
My father migrated from Mexico, legally, and became a U.S. citizen. He came to the US because he knew the great opportunities America offered. Today, things are very wrong in Texas! Our elected officials have failed to serve and protect citizens and legal residents of Texas. They have failed to remove sanctuary city policies throughout Texas. They have failed to enforce the law. They should protect our Texas families and those who protect us law enforcement officers. Sanctuary city policies have cost the lives of five Houston police officers and left another officer seriously impaired. It is time our state officials took care of this unfinished business.

“When you try explaining this weakness to his supporters they just put their hands over their ears and scream Lalalalalalalala.”
If you were a 50 year old guy wearing a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader’s outfit, you’d be “screaming lalalalalalala” too.
Th8is man is bought and paid for, even by his own brother!
Ok good. Thx
Take a look at where California was 40 years ago, before illegal immigration played a major role in destroying it. That’s where Texas is today. Texas’s demise will come much faster as the number of illegals has increased significantly.
Just as we learned nothing from Europe’s mistakes, Texas learned nothing from California’s.
A specific question should be directed to Gov Perry regarding that fact.
Gov Perry Why has illegal immigration mushroomed under your governorship?
I will be looking for some evidence of an explanation on this.
Thank you for the link. I will be loading it up and watching later. (dial up here)
The article posted talks about how he may have scuttled the Sanctuary Cities bill for one. It ends up in his debate statement about some of us not liking “Last names”, frankly quite the despicable calling up of the race card.
It's his lack of strength on the issue that is disturbing, and it's an issue that's really important to the future of this country. I don't want a nominee that thinks like W and McCain on this matter.
..Atzlan-Reconquista + North American Union advocates—strange bedfellows...
LOL!
I know! I was born in this State many years ago and have lived here my entire life. I have witnessed its change into a Third World sewer. This state is ruined. Immigration issues are a root cause of California’s social, political and financial collapse. Unless effectively dealt with this rot will spread. The Mexican really means “Reconquista.”
I agree, I do not think though that he has the attitude of GW or God forbid McCain (that would be a deal killer for me)
Perry has shown that he does listen and from what I’m finding he has been requesting help for quite awhile (not just during the campaign). IIRC Texas has 60% of the border with Mexico. It is a logistical nightmare to secure without help from the Feds.
Sanctuary cities; something I’m just getting around to. I’ve found so far that none of our ‘leaders’ past & present, have done squat about them.
Single issue?
You and people like you is what is wrong with America and this site.
Your naive political Pollyanna comment should be enough to make others recoil.
The only single issue here is the repeated ignorance like you and others have posted.
To be honest, it's hard to believe people like you are allowed to vote.
Someone should inform you the tens of millions of illegal aliens are compromising, undermining of choking off our education system, our healthcare, our hospitals, our jails, our social services, taking jobs, driving down the wages for entire industries, creating epic fraud, leaving hundreds of thousand of American victims in their wake, after being shot, raped, robbed, ran over, stabbed, burglarized etc.
You ignorant, "Single issue" comment is the pinnacle of political deceit.
Illegals using fake SS numbers are paying into the system, but will never take out. This is what is what is keeping SS alive...
My own opinion is we need someone who is willing to take this issue head on, calling out the racist attitudes that LaRaza deals with, being uncompromising about shutting down the border. From his record, Perry is not that person.
Guess this is YOUR definitive thread on Rick Perry.
Can't defend the indefensible and won't. Having said that, I always thought immigration would be the one major issue that would come back to bite Perry. Its no secret Perry has a mixed record on immigration. However, not quite as bad as some would have us believe.
Perry still opposes blanket amnesty and supports more BP agents, TNG troops if necessary and the best high tech hardware money can buy. He believes a fence running the entire Tex-Mex border is unrealistic, but supports fences that secure metro areas. Perry also says the feds are ultimately responsible for securing the border. And they are.
Most conservatives don't support in-state tuition. I don't. But the conservative Texas legislature passed it with only a few dissenters. I agree with Perry, it is a states rights issue and the people of Texas approved. Since 2001, the in-state tuition law has been made stricter. I heard Perry's speech to La Raza, not good. You know a politician who has never pandered?
I guess if some conservatives dont' like Perry because of his mixed immigration record, they can vote for Romney or one of the second tier candidates who are fading away. I think most conservatives will look at Perry's overall immigration position and hold their nose.
Ditto, from native Texan now living in Kalifornia. Immigration is my problem with Perry.
This issue is too important to be left to an open borders squish again, frankly I don't think Perry is such a great difference to Romney and it's primarily this issue I'm talking about.
Now is the time to realize the problem, not once he's our candidate. Not gonna fly.
You are not making sense and seem to have me confused with someone else.
What’s comical about any notion that Perry opposes sanctuary cities is that he is on record as favoring a work permit for illegals, which would eliminate any need for sanctuary cities (from the illegals viewpoint).
He’s as bad or worse than W Bush on the issue of illegal aliens.
Just waiting for him to come out with: “Family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande”.

I mistakenly assumed you would know this.
