Bernie Marcus, a co-founder of The Home Depot (NYSE: HD) and one of Atlanta's wealthiest businessmen, says President Barack Obamas plan to increase taxes on the rich would only serve to slow hiring and slow America's economic recovery, reports Atlanta Business Chronicle broadcast partner WXIA-TV. He also sharply criticized billionaire Warren Buffets support of the plan.
President Obama on Monday introduced a plan combining trillion-dollar spending cuts and the closure of tax law loopholes for the rich. "For us to solve this problem everybody including the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations have to pay their fair share" Obama said.
Warren Buffet, one of the richest men the U.S., is among supporters of the plan. "I have a lower tax rate, counting my payroll taxes, than anyone in my office," Buffett said.
Buffets support is drawing Marcus ire.
Marcus, who was quick to say he supports everyone paying their fair share, said also that he gives large amounts of his money to charity, medical research, and to projects that benefit the community. Buffet, he says, has not donated to charity until now. The first time in his life he's giving money to Gates to give it away, Marcus added.
Marcus said it comes down to whether people had rather private enterprise contribute to job creation and community improvements, or have those projects funded by the government after private enterprise can no longer afford it.
"Wealthy people create jobs and the entire wealth of this country has come out of job creators and job creation is the name of the game. Those are the people that count so you don't want to put them out of business," Marcus told WXIA.
New Mexico has seven Home Depot locations.
Is this the same Home Depot guy who said publicly that socialized UhbamaCare was a bad thing?
Since then, my approval of Home De(s)pot went up sharply. I always preferred Lowe’s (though frankly they’re not much different), but between HD’s comments and Lowe’s blatant pathetic accomodation of Spanish language, I think now I’ll be tending toward the Despot.
For Democrats to understand this would require them to find their own @ss!
Now, there's a shocker. Taking money away from those who create jobs will result in fewer jobs being created! Who wouldn've thunk!
Liberals have a mental block that doesn't allow them to understand 1) the rich never pay higher taxes - they either shelter their money; pass on the increased costs to consumers; or eliminate jobs (or all three), and 2) all tax increases have ever done is given more money to government to spend, and they spend every dime and more.
Bernie Marcus, on the other hand understand middle class Americans. Good for him.
AFTER Buffett pays his bill, then he can give advise to others about paying taxes...lying @ss libtard!
It seems to me that a private company like Lowe's is making a good business decision by trying to accomodate all its potential customers.
When I visited Switzerland, I noticed that most everything was printed in English, German, and Italian. They own guns too.
good for him.
buffet’s a doofus.
The wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations have to pay their fair share,to me so I can have a second term.
Every time he’s in a panic mode he uses he heman tax tune about the evil rich and his chuimps buy it.
Do you believe that they do this because they have citizens that only speak German, Italian or English? Or are they accomodating tourists/visitors.
A little bird told me that Buffet actually “sold” his name to provide a little cover for Obama’s tax scam.
What was the “price” paid to Buffet?
Obama had to promise to direct the IRS to “drop” its billion-dollar tax-deficiency lawsuit against Buffett.
Hey, it’s the “Chicago way”...
Actually, in Switzerland it’s the law on the languages ( you need to add in French) because the country is actually three countries in one. Depending on where you are ( or more correctly which of the three countries that border Switzerland are nearest to your location) the district is obliged to post in that language as well as English.
We need a 100% billionaire tax NOW. Leave everyone else alone.
Indeed, I was informed that that was the case at the time. Those were the primary languages of the swiss people in that area.
I don’t think Buffett creates any jobs...he’s just an investor, isn’t he? I think his secretary is his only employee therefore tax the crap out of him and leave job creators alone.
Not French?
The Swiss have been German/Italian/French for centuries. This is about invasion and indoctrination.
Yeah, French in there, of course. Its not indoctrination when its Lowe’s doing it.
No, but they’ve obviously bought in to the idea. We’re not talking Texas or CA here, either.
