Texas Gov. Rick Perry has a slim lead on former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the latest Winthrop Poll of South Carolina voters.
The poll, taken last week, shows Perry with 29.8 percent support from Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, to Romney's 26.6 percent. No other candidate is in the double digits.

Rhetoric? Check Drudge - you know, the site for all Rhetoric Keepers.
It’s a McClatchy poll released last night.
I thought polls were for strippers. Show a little integrity, why don't you? A Palin presidency is a pipedream.
My integrity is perfectly fine, thanks for asking.
Some polling companies have a history of accuracy, some polling companies are historically weak. NYT, NBC, PPP and those sanctioned by campaigns or activist groups (Daily Kos), soley designed to shape opinion vs reflect it, must be discounted, or offered to strippers.
Rest safelybin your early polls - they’ll work out about as well for you as Fred Thompson, Rudy Guilliani and Mitt Romney did for you in 2008.
When Bachman, Cain, Paul, Santorum & Gingrich drop out, their voters are most closely aligned with Sarah’s values. This group total is approx 25-30% of total in most polls. Where will they go?
40% of voters are “undecided or uncommitted” (i,e. None of the Above)
Your enthusaism is peaking far too early, my friend.
Every case of Crony Capitalism that hits the news over the next year will cause all media and voters to think about Rick Perry cases of Crony corruption as well. Many more cases of Obama & Perry “ethical” issues are in the pipeline.
Sarah has been fully, completely vetted.
Perry is brand new red meat for the media pack wolves. He won’t make it.
Good luck with your cheerleader fantasy.
Yeah...sure it is. The poll you referenced is more a significant indicator of obama's weakness than it is of Palin's strength. Sorry but that should be patently obvious even to you.
Patrick S. Adams, at Liberty’s Lamp:
We may be near economic death, both individually... and as a nation... But with Palin, support is hardcore and entrenched. Her army is stout with informed activists who can help any doubter borrow their confidence. If Americans can believe that she is the dawn we are looking for, we can capture that same spirit that Ronald Reagan captured. It is with that spirit that a downtrodden and economically abused electorate can find its way back to the shining city on a hill. Just as Sarah Palin undid the influence of cronyism in big oil in Alaskan politics, so can she undo the influence of cronyism in American politics. Enforcing laws that protect the rights, property and persons of citizens is the appropriate role of government. Micro-managing businesses and regulating lemonade stands is not... Knowing that Sarah Palin can deliver on this should encourage the business community and all Americans that help is on the way. While we suffer over the next year or so, at least we can suffer knowing that someday the pain will be over and the light will shine brightly again on our blessed nation.
