Romney: Religion not 'the most important issue' in presidential campaign
The Hill ^ | 9/17/11 | Alicia Cohn

Mitt Romney said Friday he does not expect his Mormon faith to become a challenge in this election, and added that he thinks most voters prioritize other issues over religion.

“I addressed this last time around, had a speech on religion in America. … That’s sort of been put to bed for me,” Romney said on the Kilmeade & Friends show on Fox News Radio. “I know there are some for whom religion is the most important issue, and I may lose some of those folks, but for the great majority of Americans, they want to see this country going again.”

If Romney (or Huntsman) is the nominee, religion will become the most important issue in the 2012 election. The Democrats will destroy Mormans worse than they've done to the Palins.

Religion not 'the most important issue' in presidential campaign

I agree Mittens, (unless it is a muslim candidate) the issue isn't your religion. It is your Progressive hack policies from Obamneycare to Global Warming. Go away Milt.

Not any more than Robert Byrd got caught up in the racism label. There will be the "good Mormans", i.e. liberals who don't really believe what their religion says.

Why is that even news? Of course it is NOT the most important issue in this presidential fight. Jobs and the economy are.

I agree, but one of the biggest issues is where a candidate stands. Romney has more positions than a porn star.

No, Reid will not “get caught up in the destruction.” He is truly Mormon, but not in terms of religion/belief. He doesn’t believe in much of anything, least of all the nonsense to be found in 3/4 of Mormon quads (the OT/NT being the 1/4 that is the exception). But he will support whatever is in vogue. He will be or do anything to gain power over people. In this he is a true disciple of Joseph, and so at the same time committed to following whatever is the line in DC, whatever will grant him power. In this DC and the LDS are not so very different. He is a frightening individual, pitiable, contemptible, and loathsome, all at the same time.

That cardboard cutout of a man and former governer isn’t in it to win.

Romney has the back of .....well, whatever his polls blow.

We are looking for more than Romney from a leader

You would think that, however he is a temple mormon and last year or so he received an award from BYU for being such a great example of what a mormon is. You are correct, the fact he is also a dem is the qualifier that will give him protection. I agree with this statement of yours He is a frightening individual, pitiable, contemptible, and loathsome, all at the same time.

The Democrats will destroy Mormans worse than they've done to the Palins.

If the Mormons on FR think the Flying Inmans are tough on Mormonism over on the religion thread, wait until the Democrat attack machine gets rolling. Unlike the Flying Inmans, the Democrat attack machine will not make distinctions between Mormonism and Mormons or fact and fiction but instead they will just smear everything in order to destroy Romney, if he is the Republican nominee. Right now, they are holding fire because Romney is useful to them.

svcw, you said:

“he is a temple mormon and last year or so he received an award from BYU for being such a great example of what a mormon is.”

My point exactly. What the mormon hoi polloi think mormonism is and what its leadership know it is and use it as are two different things. Harry and hierarchy recognize each other as birds of a feather.

As a charter member of that group, I appreciate you making the distinction between Mormons and Mormonism and you are absolutely correct that liberals and the liberal media will have a hay day talking about the many, many, many, (Can't stress that word enough) absurdities of Mormonism and the Mormon candidate, who swallows those absurdities.

He’s right, of course. The most important issue facing our country is a 4-year-old executive order that never went into effect that added one vaccine to the list of required vaccines in one state.

That is the issue for which we should choose our next president, not religion, or something like the economy, or jobs, or the national debt, or fighting a socialist government.

Who are the Flying Inmans?

The Flying Inmans are an informal group of critics of Mormonism (mostly ex-Mormons). In an angry response, we were told that we behaved like the Imams who disrupted a commercial flight a few years ago. We were mistakenly called the "Flying Inmans" and the name stuck.
