You don’t think people on food stamps clean their homes?

No smoke. No fire. Just a decided lack of observational skills mixed with a smattering of suspicion/prejudice.

I've never had or used food stamps. I've used cash, personal check, debit card, and credit card.

Never, ever have the words "food stamps" appeared on my receipt when I have used those other methods of payment.

"XXXXXXXXXXXX5865" does not necessarily mean Visa card. The first six digits would tell you that, but they're not available.

Food stamp distribution is (in many cases) done electronically, via a card bearing a 16 digit account number. Please Google "electronic benefits transfer".

Lack of "observational skills"? Yep.

You’re right

Items only add up to 15 if there were 2 lobsters rung up toegther twice. Otherwise—13 items.

UNLESS there is a ring up of an ‘item’ for the deposits on the cans for the Mtn Dew. 5 24 packs=5 sets of deposits for the cans/bottles/.

Everybody has to pay the bottle deposits. You get it back when you recycle the bottles/cans. No exceptions.

They were purchased with a Bridge Card. See my post 43.

The Bridge card in Michigan, or Michigan EBT card, is used for for both Food Stamps (FAP) and cash benefit programs, under the general umbrella of the Bridges program. Families that qualify can apply for and receive a card for use with either of these programs.

Sorry- the last 5 digits do NOT tell anyone what type of card was used.

Visa cards START with a 4
Master Cards START with a 5

Neither of those numbers appear at the start of that number shown.

I think you will find that this is an electronic card for food stamps, which is referenced on the receipt, & the 4 digits shown are definately the LAST 4 digits. There has to be an approval code to make sure the person has that much money left in their EBT account.

What’s Warren Buffett’s secretary doing shopping in Wisconsin?

That's actually the UP of Michigan, right across the river from Wisconsin. I used to shop at that store years ago when I lived up there.

Sorry - you don’t control what people choose to eat. That’s Michelle’s job.

Sadly, you are correct. Back in 'the day' Food Stamps could not be used for 'prepared food', which was defined as pre-cooked, hot and ready to eat. This included Twinkies, candy bars, chips, hot pizza, chicken, etc. This was done to encourage the poor to cook at home (turkey, rice, beans, baked potatos, veggies, casaroles, etc.) instead of heating up the more expensive TV dinners.

The recipient could load up on frozen pizza, chicken, hamburger, vegetables, bread - but not dog food, nor candy.

Today, the most obese members of our society are the poor. We lower expectations, and they continually faile to meet these levels, so we lower the bar again. This means that Food Stamps are going to McDonalds, Pizza Hut and other fast food; instead of asking unemployed Momma to cook meat/veggies at home, and have the kids sit at the table for a meal like everyone else tries to do.

I guess this was just 'cruel' - at the same time, welfare recipients are given money to buy clothes and other necessities. Asking them to budget their money, so if they wanted soda, candy, chips and beer; is just asking too much.

I work, I pay taxes, I have been unemployed; but have never been on food stamps. Today, it's easy to see who is on food stamps when I go shopping - they are the folk who have better food in their cart, than I do. We cook at home- we make a big pot of 'something' and eat it all week. My wife and I go out to a moderate resturant for a sit-down meal maybe once a month, it's all we can afford to do. Makes it more and more attractive to just quit, and sit at home with our hands out.

The can/bottle deposit applies even to plastic bottles in some states.

Yep. “Fast Food Chains Getting Into the Food Stamp Act” Sept. 7, 2011

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/business/2011/09/fast-food-chains-getting-into-the-food-stamp-act/

“Yum! Brands, based in Louisville, Ky., which operates a string of restaurants that includes Taco Bell, KFC, Long John Silver’s and Pizza Hut, are among those applying for inclusion in the food stamp program, saying that elderly, disabled and homeless people have difficulty preparing meals”

If even I a former “Vally Rez” can make dinner for under $3 at home, I wonder why others cannot.

Nope...I'm wrong....5 cases at 6.79 5 bottl at 2.40

and 8 lobster and steak items.

This sounds like it's for a small party....maybe someone's birthday. The price of the lobster is what it is here when it is on sale.
