The NTSB has recovered 'components' which may be part of the P-51's horizontal stab and elevator... possibly even the elevator trim tab, which is a specified point of inquiry (as noted in previous ANN reports).
The NTSB has received a significant amount of photographic and video evidence -- some of which show the process whereby the elevator trim tab separated from the horizontal stabilizer.
There is no evidence of the much-reported 'Mayday' call.
We are hearing a number of calls for additional regulation and FAA supervision... despite the fact that this is the first time in nearly 60 years that a spectator at an American aviation event has been killed. A quick perusal of a number of road racing events shows dozens of people/spectators killed as a result of their attendance at such exciting activities (and just in the last few years!)... there are spectator tragedies on record, as well, involving boat races, motorcycle races, BICYCLE races, sled races, ski races, horse races, you name it.

I’m not implying anything, just reporting on info from another site ..
And Yes It could be a helmet, as I mentioned in reply #111
It’s not worth it... Uncle...
I call bull shit....if you could see the smirk on the pilots face you damn sure could have seen the N number on the airplane. I don’t know if you are a pointer or a squatter but if you are a pointer you need to grow a couple of balls. I suspect you are a squatter from your posts on this thread....and you are frankly a pain in the azz...I don’t know what your agenda is...but I suspect you are a failure at whatever it is your wanted to be.... Being civil to idiots has never been one of my strong points so listen up: STFU about shitte you know nothing about and go find a Bachmann thread to have a love fest with!
Gee I'm glad I don't move in your circle of friends. I've been in aviation since 1967, and the percentage of buttheads amongst the pilots I know is about one tenth the percentage in the general population. And as far as the incident you mentioned, I suggest some type kind of serious eye examination is in order. I could read an N number a lot sooner than I could see the expression on a pilots face.
As far as the one picture with clouds and the plane diving in. That is looking to the West(or so) and at 4:30pm the Sun should of been more over. The base picture looks to me like it was taken in the morning - that would match the way the weather was in the am. I about 6 miles away from the crash at the time (at the Bonanza for those locals) and it was clear and sunny. I drove to RNO picked a vip up and drove back to the Air Races. It was clear and sunny the whole way.
I have to say, that picture at post 103 still concerns me. I realize that seeing the pylons and other aircraft must be difficult - but look at the posture the pilot is in. An unexpected, sudden 8g pull up would really slam him backwards. I don't see the large padded headrest I would expect behind him.
Someone in this thread was talking about 10g’s in a military. That's one thing the fighter aircraft designers work on pretty hard - cockpit ergonomics's. The position you are in has a lot to do with the gs you can withstand.
and a G suit.
RVN and all others replying to Mamzelle:
You would be correct to assume you are wasting your time trying to reason with Mamzelle. She and I went at it a couple of years ago over the topic of whether astronauts were worthy of admiration.
Mamzelle is a bitter female who hates manly men. She hates pilots/astronauts passionately. Probably had a bad experience - who knows? She favors the metrosexual type, because they curl up into the fetal position, under the bed with her.

I won't ever STFU about anything. So, now what?
And this speculation about my personal life doesn't do anything but amuse.
What hobby pilots need to realize is that you may adore yourselves, and rhapsodize about your dream of flight as if it's the first time anyone has ever heard such a thing said--lots of folks out there don't have a similar appreciation for your doggone wonderfulness.
Now a pilot ego has killed a lot of people, and the horrific injuries that the survivors will suffer are a chance for a come-to-Jesus moment if you expect to salvage the "sport"--
BTW—what are pointers an squatters?
U R an idiot.
It turns out to have been taken (and vouched for) by Tim O'Brien a reporter for TheUnion.com and long-time air-show photographer. O'Brien also took the shot showing the tail damage, which will probably turn out to be the most valuable piece of photographic evidence.

would responding that I think you are a ignorant "charlie, uniform, november, tango...how does that work for you? How about labeling you as a man hater that has to sneak up on a mirror? Try on the mantle of being stupid as the third squirt of goose feces...don't tax my memories of wenches like you betch...and finally...remember feck with the bull and get the horn!
And what do pointer-squatters have to do with anything?
The plane that crashed in PA on 9/11 [sorry, can’t remember the number also disintegrated without a fire
... didn’t it?
