The battle for the Republican presidential nomination is just heating up. But the choice of running mate is as good as settled, at least if the Beltway buzz is to be believed.
Many party insiders feel that the attractions of Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) for the second spot on the ticket are irresistible.
Right now, he is head and shouders above everybody else, Florida-based GOP strategist Rick Wilson told The Hill. (Wilson supported Rubio during his 2010 Senate bid, but did not work for the campaign.)
Garlands have been hurled Rubios way with conspicuous frequency in the past few weeks.
Rubio has the most important ingredient of any leader: vision, conservative columnist Cal Thomas wrote.
Former George W. Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen last week contrasted the depressing performance of the Republican presidential candidates on foreign policy with that of Rubio. The Floridian recently stepped forward to do what the other candidates should have: lay out a clear foreign policy vision, Thiessen wrote on his Washington Post blog.

The hype is from THE MEDIA
ignore it
He is also NOT eligable
McCain IS eligible- he was born to parents serving in the miltary out of the country
There is no way on earth that US service members’ children born out of the country are NOT natural born citizens
I’m surprised there are so many illiterates on this board.
If Sarah Palin wasn't the VP on mcpain's ticket, he'd have carried Arizona.
The VP does indeed make a difference, look at JFK and LBJ, even with all the cheating in Chicago and West Virginia, no way Texas or any southern state goes to JFK without johnson as his VP.
McCain had to be born on American soil. You could probably make that case if he was born on the base, but he was born off base.
You lack the understanding of the Supreme Court or the true nature of Minor. For example there is one very important sentence: “For the purposes of this case it is not necessary to solve these doubts.”
If you actually listen to oral arguments in the Nguyen case before SCOTUS you will see they CLEARLY don’t agree on this issue...and you will see it is NOT settled law.
Interestingly, when another case came up recently that had used the Nguyen case as a basis - NO MENTION of the topic of qualifications to run for President came up.
“Rubio was born in the US. That is all that is required.”
What, exactly, is the difference then between a “citizen” and a “natural born citizen”?
Rubio was born in the US.
What’s your point ?
Rubio's not eligible. That kind of anti-Constitutional thinking is a large part of why we are in this obama mess.
Indeed!
1) Your assertions about the meaning of “Natural Born Citizen” are gratuitous. Thus, they may be gratuitously denied. If one takes your position, there is NO DISTINCTION between an NBC and any other kind of citizen. But a basic rule of interpretation is that if distinct terms are used, then distinct meanings were intended. The Constitution uses the term NBC with regard to the qualifications for ONLY ONE federal office.
2) The very fact that Obama has published a crudely forged “birth certificate” (Six different typewriters???) is evidence that there is no genuine birth certificate—at least, not one from Hawaii. Personally, I believe Obama is not a U.S. citizen at all. There is no evidence that he was born on U.S. soil; his mother did not meet the conditions for the transmission of citizenship; his father was a foreign national.
Just the way the Left is making no issue about the allegations about Palin and Glen Rice, since to do so after Clinton would be hypocritical.
Nguyen is irrelevant.
MINOR V. HAPPERSETT (1874) IS BINDING PRECEDENT AS TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL DEFINITION OF A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.
The Court in Minor did make a direct holding that Mrs. Minor was, in fact, a US citizen. The Court established her citizenship by definining the class of natural-born citizens as those born in the US to parents who were citizens. Then the Court included Virginia Minor in that class thereby deeming her to be a US citizen. And they did this by specifically avoiding the 14th Amendment and by specifically construing Article 2 Section 1.
The US Supreme Court definition of an Article 2 Section 1 natural-born citizen as stated in Minor v Happersett is strictly limited to those persons born in the United States to parents who were citizens.
When the Court held that Minor was a citizen under Article 2 Section 1 because she was born in the US of citizen parents, that definition became national law. Therefore, Minor supersedes all other sources on this point. It is a direct Constitutional interpretation and definition.
It still stands. Minor vs. Happersett has never been superseded. Never.
I asked you a question......
“what, exactly, is the difference between a “citizen” and a “natural born citizen”” and you respond with “what’s your point”??
It seems an easy enough question to answer. Please do so. Thanks.
Rubio was born in the USA.
Rubio was not born in the USA
Pick one.
One really dumb, stupid line in the article..describing the GOP as “not actually awash in rising stars” CRAP..GOP has a whole group of fresh young faces ready for a national stage..Christie, Daniels, McDonnell, Lahey..and many more..OTOH..tell me who the Dems have as a possible 2016 candidate..?
