Today is looking very, very different, even though the situation in Egypt is still very fluid.

but my suspicions about turkey were raised about 2004 when i picked up a copy of the sunday nyt magazine
to find ergodan and his wife on the cover.
his wife was wearing a headscarf, signalling a change in
“secular” turkey.
it used to be that the turkish military guaranteed secular continuity in turkey, but recently some of the generals have been jailed and forcibly retired.
i think turkey is surging. turkey has a modern economy. germany’s support of turkey is interesting.
egypt’s a loser. they have a small economy and the moslem brotherhood will eventually destroy the tourist economy.
persia’s danagerous. iran means aryan a la hitler’s influence.
the competition will be between “moderate” islam of turkey and the wild shia of iran.
