Palestinian Authority officials on Saturday threatened the United States saying vetoing its statehood bid in the United Nations Security Council next week would "destroy" the so-called two-state solution.
The warning came hours after PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas announced in a speech in Ramallah that he would ask the UN Security Council to accept membership of a PA state despite a firm US warning the move would fail.
Chief PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat warned a US veto would not only destroy the two-state solution, but could lead to the dismantling of the PA.

Time for Obama to do some groveling. SNORT.
What a dilemma
WONDER what we US Citizens will be PAYING for Obombo’s grovelling THiS time?
The PA should have been dismantled and plowed under
with salt years ago.
Gaza should be bulldozed into Egypt starting from the
north.
The good Rev Wright preached a pro- Pali, anti- Jew message the whole time Obama sat in his church. This must put hi in a true bind.
Let’s put a bunch of career thugs and murderers in charge of creating a state. Everyone in it will be peaceful and prosperous, of course. What could possibly go wrong?
Just like here?
Your multimillionaire coreligionists feed you just enough money to allow their own populaces to fuel their antisemitism while treating you with contempt otherwise. And, speaking of contempt, I remember the multitude of pictures of the Palestinian Street dancing with joy over 09/11/01!
Wait! There’s more!
“Anyone who supports the two-state solution should back the Palestinian effort [at the UN],” he said.
Erekat hinted that if the PLO dismantles the PA, it would subsequently insisting on the ‘right of return’ for millions of ‘Palestinian refugees’ to Israel.
Abbas said that his “extensive and sincere” efforts to reach an agreement that would end occupation and lead to an independent Palestinian state through negotiations have hit a dead end, blaming Israeli “intransigence.”
“We seek to gain membership in the UN on the basis of the 1967 borders so that we could afterward return to the negotiations on a clear and internationally recognized reference.”
Abbas said that the statehood bid was only part of the Palestinian strategy that is designed to “put the Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital back on the geography map.”
He also cautioned Arabs in PA enclaves against resorting to violence, stressing that support for the statehood bid should be “peaceful.” Otherwise, he said, this could “harm us and sabotage our efforts.”
And if the US vetoes them in the UN, they’ll never ever use those arms for anything except blood feuds and honor killings. How can America be so cruel? Let ‘em have a state of their very own, a little state that they can pet and play wif. Dey used to have a state, but it don’t move no more because of Zionist occupiers.
20 years ago the PLO representatives stood on the White House lawn and signed the Oslo accords, undertaking to settle all claims through direct negotiations with Israel. Here they are now, trashing their agreement with the USA and threatening us at the same time.
Of course it was silly for Clinton to ever believe the PLO, but this would not be happening if not for Obama’s horrific foreign policy blunders. He should not only Veto (which I think he will) but cut off funding and urge others to do the same in retaliation for their abrogating their agreements. He needs to change course again, and realize that his predecessors were a lot smarter and wiser than he gave them credit for. Clinton told Bush the biggest mistake he made was to trust the PLO, Bush was correct to insist that the Palestinians get their house in order, and yet Obama comes in 8 years later thinking he knows better, blames Israel, changes the terms of the negotiations that had been going on for 15 years, throws out other allies under the bus, and dragged the parties towards conflict.
“trashing their agreement with the USA and threatening us at the same time”
And what is the threat? We’ll cease being the PA and be the PLO again. Fine. Hope Bibi rolls out a red carpet for them and hustles them over it onto a plane to Antarctica.
We really, really must bring back dueling to kill various leftist cowards and remove them from Earth. We can start at the UN for practice, and then move onto the US Congress and the fascist pig federal bureaucracy.
The closest thing to that is drive-by shootings. To actually stand alone with a single-shot pistol and fire on signal only at ten paces requires a sense of honor that you will not find now.
Yeah that is part of the threat. Absurd in its own way “We will declare ourselves a state but then dismantle our government and become full-time terrorists again”. They will be Somalia.
Or we can just annex the former PA territory and offer citizenship to any Arab with a clean record who applies and takes an oath of loyalty. Few will at first, but as law and order makes their lives easier, and the pre-Intifada prosperity seeps back into the region, enough will that we can say they are enfranchised, and enough will refuse for “Arab pride” that they won’t be changing the electoral balance any time soon. Any emigrants will have their move to the country of their choice subsidized along the lines of Jewish immigration subsidies.
That hasn’t worked out too well in Jerusalem, but Israel has been too easy on that subject for too long. Since you mention it though I suppose at some point Israel needs to lay down the law there. It could be an appropriate measure in response to a unilateral declaration by the PA. Force the residence of Jerusalem to become Israeli citizens or leave - no more middle ground. The gauntlet is being thrown and surely nobody expects the vote to just come and go.
Personally I think the PA is being shortsighted but that is nothing new. Once Abbas’ generation is dead or too old to hold power, the Pals are in for a disaster. Which is the real human tragedy, yet to happen. A bifurcated state, rudderless, leaderless, with people claiming to be citizens all over the region and no way in or out. And that isn’t the worst of it. Israel always would be their only savior, one they constantly spit on, though I don’t know that annexing it all and forcing loyalty and transfer will be acceptable on a large scale for Israel. In Jersualem, maybe, bring things to a head. The entirety of it, probably asking for too much attention.
It’s Jerusalem I refer to as a model. Since this declaration tantrum started, citizenship applications from Palis have spiked. I think that’s just peachy, and want it to stay completely voluntary. Annex the whole Yesha and extend the Jerusalem-style offer to everyone there. Just like Jerusalem, most won’t take it, but enough will.
