The Solyndra scandal cost at least a half-billion public dollars. It is plaguing President Barack Obama. And it's being billed as a Washington story.
But back in Obama's political hometown, those of us familiar with the Chicago Way can see something else in Solyndra something that the Washington crowd calls "optics." In fact, it's not just a Washington saga it has all the elements of a Chicago City Hall story, except with more zeros.
So forget optics. What about smell? It smells bad, and it's going to smell worse.
Or, did you really believe it when the White House mouthpieces who are also Chicago City Hall mouthpieces promised they were bringing a new kind of politics to Washington?
This is not a new kind of politics. It's the old kind. The Chicago kind.

Prior to joining the Obama administration, Mr. Spinner served the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition Team on the technology innovation and government reform working group. Before then, Mr. Spinner had been an active advisor and investor to over thirty leading technology companies, helping entrepreneurs, like Tesla, grow their ventures, focusing on incorporation, financing, product development, organizational behavior, business development, and sales and marketing.
There’s a big difference between Solyndra and Tesla Motors: Tesla founder Elon Musk has said it’s more a “hobby” than making real money, which is what Musk’s other company, SpaceX, represents.
Bears lots of repeating.
Solydra is a distraction at best. Typical Chicago pay-to-play tactics revealed to keep the public eye focused away from the main action: Fast and Furious.
Treason, accessory to a growing list of murders, gun running to cartels, fascilitating drug running and distribution and sales by cartels, import/export violations, violations of international law, tampering with evidence, stonewalling Congressional investigators, intimidation and slander of Congressional investigators, almost total press blackout (including Drudge) . . . etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. All the way to the top. No special investigator appointed. No Congressional outcry from Right or Left. No charges or arrests. No firings. Nothing. Zero. Zip. Nada.
Indeed but the medis is working 24/7 to white wash the facts.
“When your hometown newspaper has an article like this - you know things are bad.”
I hope you’re right in that Solyndra will follow BO for the rest of his term, but don’t put too much stock in one article critical of Obama in the Tribune.
John Kass is a the Trib’s marquee opinion columnist, so he has a good bit of freedom in what he says; moreover, he’s relatively conservative, and has never hesitated to take on the Daleys, Deadfish Rahm, the donkey machine in Chicago, and the whole corrupt state government.
When the rest of the editorial staff turns on the Chosen One I’ll be impressed, but my guess is the Trib’s collective lips are still firmly attached to Obama’s backside.

From the Mark Levin Show.
Yes and it reeks of what Richard Nixon is accused of -- White House plumbers. But Obama is using the original version of plumbers. He's using civil service employees of his own Holder Dept. of Just Us FBI to do the break-ins, thefts, and intimidation.
At least in Illinois our scandals are quite ecumenical, with Republicans eager to help Democrats steal whatever they can grab.
.. and in Washington the "it all counts toward 30" civil service employees are eager to help Obama Democrats steal -- or get away with anything else -- to protect their privileges.
To wit, The bureaucrats are the fulcrum so the guys with the leverage can lift great weight without too much effort. And while they might whine privately among themselves, they don't hold news conferences to blow the whistle. They keep their mouths shut . . . If anyone gets caught and the problem becomes public . . . ." then they acknowledge and start covering their behinds.
IOW.. let's see how many years after Obama is out of office that an investigation report is quietly released late afternoon on a long holiday weekend.
.. oh, in the mean time some GS-3 might get reprimanded.
hmmmm.....Stevie Spinner SHOULD be in BIG trouble!!!
It is a distraction, but it isn’t a planned distraction.
IMO the fact is that Obama is tied up in so many crooked schemes and several are coming to light all at one time.
This is what Hillary warned about when she was competing for the office
When the politicians pick the winners and losers, just look in the mirror to find the real loser.
No, the Admin did not PLAN the scandal, as you say, but I think the government-media complex is operating in concert to keep it just front and center enough to distract.
And I agree in principle that perhaps the fighter who throws more punches will increase his odds of winning, but not when his opponent is wide open right now for a KO.
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Wrong, this is corruption and play for pay.
Bail out Chrysler and stiff the bond holders so the UAW keeps their jobs. UAW = major donor to Obama.
Bail out GM and stiff the bond holders so the UAW keeps their jobs. UAW = major donor to Obama.
Give 1/2 billion loan to Solyndra. A major stockholder in Solyndra is a billionaire campaign bundler for Obama, George Kaiser. Solyndra goes belly up but Obama gets massive donations.
Note the loan was set up so investors are first in line for repayment in case of chapter 11. That means his billionair investor will recoup some or all of his investment and the American Tax Payer eats the loss.
This is not bad business models, this is the "Chicago Way" of corruption and legalized theft.
