Yes it was a pattern made craft and in some kind of miracle there was no fireball.
To: dupree
You don’t get it because your interests lie in other areas.
Comparing this to the CT bar is ignorant. These airshows are highly regulated and professionally run.

“The Galloping Ghost is one of nine hundred P-51-15-NA type Mustangs produced by NAA during World War II. It was originally delivered to the Army Air Forces (AAF) on 23 December 1944 and later was assigned to the Third Air Force before being declared surplus on 25 October 1945 and put in storage at Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.”
There was no fireball because of good engineering and limited fuel on board.

I looked for the fuel cell(s) and could not see it in the wreckage. About the only identifiable parts were from the engine.

Wow. You were very fortunate not to be injured.
Awful memory to have to live with.
They’ve lowered the number killed - remarkable it was so few.

Fox News has just shown a close up of the tail of the aircraft just before impact. the starboard elevator trim tabs, are broken on the out board & still attached on the inboard. And “flapping” in the air stream. Also the pilot was seen just before impact trying to fight the air craft away from the spectators, & grand stand.

We heard that the friends of friends are fine, they were not near the crash and are unhurt, but are in shock over what happened. Horrific scene on the ground....

You would have to be a fool to go to this show knowing how dangerous it is and that you could be killed in a second. You're right. Even FR is too dangerous for you.
Climb back under your bed and curl up again.

Thank you for the post of the accident aircraft. I disagree with your assessment of wingtip vortices as the cause. These aircraft too light to generate damaging vortices.

Glad to hear your friends are fine.
I’m sure it’s a memory they’d like not to have.

This reminds me of that fire in that Connecticut bar where fireworks were lit in that deathtrapComparing this to the CT bar is ignorant.
Just for the record, the bar was in West Warwick, Rhode Island. It was called The Station Nightclub.
I fail to see any logical comparison to this racing accident, but that's just me.

Judging from what I read here, the pockets are empty so big payouts not likely.
While I believe that people ought to be able to take their own risks and visit dangerous places--I also am quite familiar with the often arrogant culture of hobby pilots and their perceived perquisites. So anyone who questions those perquisites is an "arrogant creep"?
I know some really rich hobby pilots...and they are really liberal, except when it comes to their "rights" to the air overhead. Then everyone else's property is their property, like the world is their air park.

You are right. I did not read the entirety. Lesson learned and apologies.
To: Mamzelle
Actually it was “ignorant creep”.
But yes, I think that harsh judgement on Hannity was ridiculous. He’s persona-non-grata just because he thought it was way too dangerous to do these things?
