Democrat David Weprin said yesterday that President Obamas sagging popularity among Queens and Brooklyn voters cost him the election for ex-Rep. Anthony Weiners congressional seat.
In a stunning upset, Weprin was trounced by Republican Bob Turner, whose campaign had tied him to the president.
The message of the campaign was Send Obama a message, said Weprin, a Queens state assemblyman. I think the problem was that hes the president and people are frustrated, and its just natural to take it out on the top guy -- or the top guys party.
As much as I tried to make it about David Weprin or Bob Turner, I dont think that resonated to voters. I think that voters looked at it as a referendum on the president, Weprin said.
Democrats outnumber Republicans 3 to 1 in the district.
During one press conference, Weprin refused to say whether he backed Obamas re-election. In fact, he did not mention the president in his literature, nor did he seek Obamas endorsement.

Weprin is wise.
Does that mean that had the Weiner scandal broken under Bush, Weprin would have won the election?

I was sunk by Obama: Weprin
AttackWatch!
It was the latest in a long string of referendums on the president's leadership. That string started in 2009 when the New Jersey and Virginia governorships went Republican, and continued in 2010 with the loss of Ted Kennedy's former Senate seat. Then there was last November.
It isn’t just Obama. Weprin’s whole party is infested with communists, liars, tax cheats, bribe-takers, etc. We’re sick of all of them!
Bus toss to the undercarriage.
You bet, I don’t disagree with his conclusion.
He was shocked to find out the majority of people are 100% against both of them.
WOW..even a dumbass dumbcrat like this fool finally figured out that hooking your wagon to a horse’s ass like zero will leave you with just one view....
It also didn’t help that he doesn’t live in the district and said he wasn’t planning to move there.
he thought he could get away with it. Just give a nice speech on Israel, promise everyone some money and that’s it.
No he wasn’t. What a crybaby.
Everybody knows that district is a difficult district. Ask Debbie Waserman-Schultz. (Sarcasm)
Yes, but then how did Bloomberg win his illegal third term there? Manhattan snob support?
The caveat with accepting those excuses by the public initially, is that it becomes the first identifying trait or quality when things go wronglater down the road. And things are going horribly wrong and all we have is a $15,000,000,000,000 bill to pay and a lousy bag of excuses from the guy who's handed it to us.
Time to trademark “Obama’s Fault!”
That’s mean!
Now the guy with the worst wig in the world is going to get an IRS audit as well as one of the most embarrassing defeats in NY history.
Promising to crown Christine Quinn the next mayor of NY.
During the Weiner scandal, some freepers said that my district was so hopelessly liberal that Weiner would still win if he didn’t resign. I KNOW that was so wrong.
