When the initial buzz about Rick Perry started getting louder and louder this summer, I asked a friend of mine, who is a longtime veteran of Republican politics, what I should expect from the Texas governor who was trying to become our party's next nominee for president. The response was quick and to the point: Rick Perry is George Bush on crack, just wait. So far, I don't necessarily agree that Rick Perry is George Bush on crack, but he could definitely be described as George Bush 2.0. He is also a phenomenon that has quickly attracted intense interest and high poll numbers that continue to climb (he is currently, in most polls, the Republican frontrunner). All of it, I quite frankly do not understand. I feel like a character in The Emperors New Clothes, but instead of pointing out that the emperor isnt wearing any clothes, I am pointing out that this person is in every way unelectable on a national scale.
Who exactly are we kidding here? Do we really think possibly nominating George Bush 2.0 is going to fly with independents in a post-Obama era? Why as Republicans are we are more concerned with retaining our moral high ground in picking a candidate who hits every qualification of a true conservative litmus test than thinking about the national stage of a general election? Why do we still, after all this time, and in all the ways that the world is changing, continue to put a politician front and center who has very little crossover appeal?

When will she and her feckless father finally declair themselves democrats?
When Meghan says that Rick Perry is Bush II, she means he’s another damned stupid conservative, who will be unpopular among her liberal friends and press connections.
She’s only saying this because:
a) She wants another minute of fame;
b) She has seen and believed the MSM polls that Perry is leading;
c) She hates to think that anyone might be more significant than she is.
When the press starts focusing on other R candidates, you can be sure she’ll be out there bad-mouthing them. If and when Palin enters the picture again, then you’ll really hear Meghan scream!
>> I would vote for Pol Pot if he ran against Zero.
Well, Paul Pot *is* running, so why dontcha?
...oh wait, sorry, that’s *Ron* Paul and he *approves of* Pot. My bad! :-) You can see how I got confuzed though.
Meghan McStain dur dur dur...
Blind sow roots-up truffle?
Anyone notice the demeanor and facial expressions of Perry?
It’s extremely similar to Bush’s behavior and demeanor.
I will say again, it is a good thing Meggie is a trust fund princess because no one really takes her seriously on any subject.
I always liked W but he did have his own issues with crony capitalism
Everybody knows how much the Bush and Perry camps love each other. It's like Michigan State vs Michigan.
Well, if the McCain-ette doesn’t like Perry, that’s another mark in his favor, as far as I’m concerned.
IMHO Dole was better than McCain. Except for the ED commercials
Anyone notice the demeanor and facial expressions of Perry? Its extremely similar to Bushs behavior and demeanor. Just watch Perry in the last two debates...He’s got that cocky, spaced out look going...The similarities are down right scary.
Bill is looking pretty good to me right now
What is Meagan McCain.?
A white Cynthia McKinney with half the IQ.
good luck with yor wish list...
She's wrong that Perry is unelectable. Just about anyone will be able to beat Zero in 2012.
She's right that Perry is Dubya 2.0.
The GOP is heading directly toward giving us another RINO candidate. In the past, I held my nose and voted for the RINO, I won't do it again.
Over the last 60 years, the government at all levels has just become too freaking big, and that's causing all kinds of problems. Yet, over the last 60 years, the GOP has occupied the White House 60% of the time. Instead of reducing the size of government, the GOP has simply made it bigger.
So, the meme that if we don't vote for the GOP candidate, the sky will fall is just plain and simple BS.
Thank you for that post. i agree completely.
I'd like to hear your definition of "liberal", if you please.
