It opens with a bunch of old guys in t-shirts shooting big guns at stationary targets while the camera shakes to boost the suspense. Then the video cuts to a guy in a black polo shooting stuff -- it's Rick Perry!

Well, I didn’t write the headline.
I liked the “Gun control is hitting what you aim at” — but of course the preposition at the end of the sentence is also fodder for criticism.

I like his strong second amendment position. It makes him far superior to Romney but his weakness on immigration is still troubling. He’s far too accepting of amnesty so he’s not my primary choice although I will vote for him in the general if he’s the one... unlike Romney.

Grammar Myth #1. You shouldn’t end a sentence with a preposition. Wrong! You shouldn’t end a sentence with a preposition when the sentence would mean the same thing if you left off the preposition. That means “Where are you at?” is wrong because “Where are you?” means the same thing. But there are many sentences where the final preposition is part of a phrasal verb or is necessary to keep from making stuffy, stilted sentences: “I’m going to throw up,” “Let’s kiss and make up,” and “What are you waiting for” are just a few examples. (See episode 69 for more details.)
Hitting what you aim! . . . Believe - “Hitting what you aim at” would be correct.
Which comes first grammar or speech? Can native speakers make a grammar mistake if the native speaker is the source of all grammar? Do these hit the target?

Too many times, we’ve been told, if we’ll just pass this immigration reform then we’ll secure the border. And it hasn’t happened...."

Well, I was referring to the “dialect” spoken by youth in the black areas of Miami, the city where I live. And not just spoken. I have teacher friends in those communities who see this all the time. The kids are certainly not taught “Where you at” in their classes. If they want to speak that way fine, but it does not impress me if they are interviewing for a job. (Maybe this is just another aspect of the “pants on the ground” problem?)

I see nothing at all wrong with Mr. Perry enjoying a day at a gun range, guns along with our Second Amendment are an American birthright. I would rather see him shooting a gun than chasing a little white ball around a field. I will vote for Perry if he is the last one standing for the GOP, I will NOT vote for Romney. I would love to see someone ask Romney why he endorsed a 300% INCREASE on gun licensing in Ma. while he was Gov. it went from $25 dollars to $100 dollars, I know, I am in Ma. it was done to price lower income people out of their ‘right’ to own a gun for self defense, that is Romney and his stand on the Second Amendment.........Perry for President!!
That very weakness will be an asset with the Hispanic vote. Besides, without Congressional support, there isn;t much damage he COULD do. And once in office, he will be more susceptible to pressure from other parts of the Country. In Texas, the Hispanic vote is VERY important.

Obama speaking and Rick Perry sounds just like him in last sentence of Obama’s speech:
“As I mentioned when I was at La Raza a few weeks back, I wish I had a magic wand and could make this all happen on my own,” Obama told a meeting of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. “There are times where — until Nancy Pelosi is speaker again — I’d like to work my way around Congress.”
As he continued, Obama conceded that “we’ve got laws on the books that have to be upheld.” But he quickly added there are different ways to uphold the laws on the books. “You know as well as anyone that…how we enforce those laws is also important,” Obama said. Last month, the administration made a major, unilateral change in immigration law enforcement when it announced that the government will not initiate deportation proceedings against illegal immigrants unless they have committed serious crimes. To critics, Obama had indeed worked his way around Congress.
To the Hispanic Caucus, Obama said his new policy will “prioritize criminals who endanger our communities, not students trying to achieve the American dream.”
Perry supports cheap in-state tuition for illegal aliens. Geez.... What part of “illegal” does he no comprendo?
