Our Mission
On the 17th of September, we want to see 20,000 people to flood into lower Manhattan, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months. Once there, we shall incessantly repeat one simple demand in a plurality of voices and we will not leave until that demand has been met.
...
What Is This "One Demand"?
... A Facebook poll started by Adbusters suggests the demand might be an end to corporate personhood.

I hope those lunatics do set up this weekend. I hope they get all entrenched real good. It’s already in the 50s at night in NY. This time of year the weather usually swings wildly in the north east. One day it’s 70 and clear, the next it’s 50 and raining like crazy. We’re going to drop below 40 tonight (250 miles upstate).
I can just see a bunch of “city folk” trying to camp out in the city streets long term with the season already turning.
Man, I feel like taking a lawn chair down there and watching the show for a day.
A little help from a water cannon or two would drop the windchill quite nicely !
Don’t go messing stuff up on my birthday.
Lunatics. Wall Street will be at Sag Harbor, Connecticut or The Vineyard.
You won’t be a blip of notice to them or anyone else except the local police.
If that’s the case, they will probably be too stoned to find New York.
This will amount to exactly nothing. I predict instead we will see a "Day of Mild Irritation", complete with a few hundred mush head college kids following the lead of a couple dozen aging hippies. The vast majority of lefties pushing this thing will remain safely in their parents basements playing keyboard commando.
NYPD ain’t gonna let ‘em set up nothin’!
There will be many arrests and then the po-po will bring in the cavalry.
I’ve seen it before at protests near Wall St.(Cops never let them actually GET to Wall or Broad Sts.) The mounted units are expert at crowd control and most of the Alpha Hotels a scared of those big horsies.
“A Facebook poll started by Adbusters suggests the demand might be an end to corporate personhood.”
They might be a bunch of kooks and misfits but even a blind pig will root up an acorn now and again.
in many ways eliminating the fictitious “personhood” for corporations and organizations is a worthy objective. As long as it would apply to labor unions, PACs etc. and not just corporations.
The idea is anathema to politicians because this is the vehicle that fuels their outrageous election campaign funds.
What could entirely change the complexion of this little affair would be for Michael Bloomberg to feel personally threatened by the demonstrators. That is, feeling that they want to not just humiliate him, but assassinate him.
Imagine if the NYPD were given license to clear the street? Or to arrest each and every protestor? Think they could pull it off?
I like the idea of herding them as a mass down to the East River, where large boats would be waiting.
I wish them lots of luck. They obviously have no idea how the NYPD works....or what they put up with.
They already have that. NYC is NOT a good place to hold a protest.
It’s also the anniversary of the Soviet Union’s invasion of Poland in 1939.
That should provide the proper mindset for confronting these bilge rats.
I was thinking perhaps a fluid with a bit higher specific gravity..........
II think we should take a load of Feral hogs down there and turn them loose. They need to eat too.
There is some talk of them doing it for a month. Can you imagine (no toilet, no shower living like the third worlders they want us to become) how badly they are going to stink.
Oh yeah close all the Wall St establishments, food outlets including hot dog vendors, bathrooms, everything. Show them what life might be like without any capitalism at all.
Protest against capitalism? How many of them have camera phones (you do know that evil corporations put those things out). How many of them eat at chain restaurants, buy a car made by one of those evil automobile manufacturers, see movies by those money hungry film studios, watch MSNBC
(owned by a MAJOR CORPORATION). Starbucks: Big evil
corporation!
Clearly capitalism is evil so they should eat nuts and
berries, not use cell phones or computers, not see concerts sponsored by big corporations, watch anything on TV or
listen to anything on radio. They shouldn’t buy CDs or
downloads of music, as they’re all big evil corporations.
Oh, and I know of one allegedly NON-profit corporation
(funded by taxpayers and rich people’s donations actually)
that fired a black man who dared to express his opinion:
That’s right, hippies: BOYCOTT NPR! :)
