TRENDING: New book on Palin blasted as 'lies'

Washington (CNN) - Todd Palin released a scathing statement late Wednesday about author Joe McGinniss, whose new book about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has grabbed internet and tabloid headlines, as well as received harsh criticism from The New York Times.

In a statement distributed to members of the media, Palin's husband said the book "is full of disgusting lies, innuendo and smears."

"This is a man who has been relentlessly stalking my family to the point of moving in right next door to us to harass us and spy on us to satisfy his creepy obsession with my wife," Palin said. "His book is full of disgusting lies, innuendo, and smears. Even The New York Times called this book 'dated, petty,' and that it 'chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip.'"

McGinniss' book, "The Rogue," is set for publication next week and is the latest work from the bestselling author who first rose to national prominence with "The Selling of the President 1968," which described the marketing of Richard Nixon during the 1968 campaign. He subsequently wrote a crime trilogy and two controversial books about the Kennedy family.

I disagree. Scum like McGinnis should be publicly called out for the perverts they are.

Yeah, that Karl Rove tactic really worked out well for GW didn't’ it? He stayed silent for 8 years and let the accusations and lies completely gut him.

Not the same thing at all. There is no equivalence between personal tabloid-type smears and the policy issue lies Bush let slide. I was one of the ones most strongly urging him to fight back on those.

As I said, however, it's a judgment call - up to the Palins. I respect their prerogative. Time will tell if it was the right call.

Palin is not the most perfect person, but she is about 100 better than algore’s friend perry.

That smear by that piece of human debris has probably been used against every attractive female leader since the dawn of history. However, I can think of some female Democrat leaders that it will never be used against.

"Oh you mean Perry People?.....lol"

Not funny. You have put "Perry People" on the same level as Joe McGinnis, who poster #6 insinuated as being a pedophile. I know McGinnis deserves all the slander lawsuits he can get for his trashy book. However, making rude comments to Perry People does not further your case against Governor Rick Perry. Try to give a fact or two to support your case. That will do a service for the Free Republic by educating those who drift into the comments and could use some good information from you. It will also sharpen your skills later when we need to push for the candidate who will stop Obama.

The only redeeming element to your rudeness is that it will toughen up those who you disagree with you for the fight ahead. It does not further the art of intellectual argument which we will need to win friends and influence people. And, soon we will have to be on the same page for the promotion of the candidate to take out Obama. I for one, hope that candidate is Sarah Palin. We might even see Rick Perry selecting her as his vice president or, vice versa. Then those Sarah Palin People who made rude comments to Rick Perry People will have to shake hands and work together.

It’s really not appropriate to suggest that Perry and Romney supporters are pedophiles or perverts and should be kept away from children. That crosses a line of decency that should be respected between FReepers.

If you have to hurl insults at those with whom you disagree, how about limiting those insults to “troll,” “RINO,” “Perrybots,” “Perrywinkles,” etc.?

I was talking about McGinnis..NOT Romney or Perry supporters, I would NEVER say such a thing. I was calling McGinnis a perv because he is, he would peer into Piper’s room when he was living across the street from him
