Many supporters of Gov. Perry have come to his defense over this Gardasil matter. The arguments are: (1) Gardasil should have been mandatory with the "opt-out" provision; (2) No big deal because the Texas legislature killed the Executive Order; or (3) as Perry says today, he made a mistake, should have made it "opt-in." Now comes word that Perry's top donor was the Republican Governors Association and that Merck began donating to RGA when Perry became its head.

Don’t forget, when you’re in power and you’re weighing risk against benefit, adding a bit of crony capitalism tips the scales real fast. Do you know how powerful the temptation is to convince yourself you’re helping to fight cancer when the true appeal is paybacks or making big money deals?
Lots of people wouldn’t know about the opt out and would just trust the government. Perry already admitted his judgment on the issue at the time wasn’t trustworthy.
No, I wouldn’t because I would get the crony capitalism out of the picture.
That’s funny, but I’m just being realistic, Perry is not my first choice at all - I’m just going by the two candidates that are far in the lead in the polls and will likely win the primary, that’s all.
My first choice is DeMint, but he’s not in.
No reason to throw out insults, maybe you need to grow up.
Capitalism = Good.
Crony Capitalism = Fascism = Bad.
But since the liberals went and redefined the word ‘fascist’ to mean ‘things that liberals don’t like’, the term Crony Capitalist is used instead.
It’s crooked land deals, pay-to-play, lobbying for regulations to give you and edge on competitors, tax loopholes. Stuff like that. Hope that clears up the misunderstanding. :)
Do you know why we Texans, the most conservative voters in the Country, decided to grant in-state tuition? Because we were out of options. We cant keep them out, the government wont let us, we cant throw them out, the government wont let us, we cant withhold medical care, we cant withhold food stamps, we cant keep them from doing a damn thing, the government won't let us.
We figured screw it, lets make them tax payers. It sucks, we know it, but the reality is, the US Government took away our tools, tied our hands and then left us on our own.

Actually I admire Texas for their tort reform. Wish we could do it nationwide.

I believe you never answered my question. Perry's nanny-state EO was overturned with a bi-partisan vote of 119-21. Do you believe those 121 Texas House members also "hate Texas females and want them to die of cancer"?

Perry wanted tort reform to help Docs. The PI’s have been after him ever since.
