Mitt Romney and the dog on the car roof: Gail Collins' obsession
PolitiFact;St Pete Times ^ | September 14, 2011 | Drobnic Holan

Gail Collins loves telling the story of how Mitt Romney drove his family to Canada with the family dog strapped to the roof of the car — and telling it, and telling it, and telling it.

The liberal New York Times columnist has mentioned the incident in print 19 times, by our count. She devoted a column to it in 2007 when Romney first ran for president. In another column, she suggested John McCain pick Romney for his running mate "so I can repeatedly revisit the time Mitt drove to Canada with the family dog on the station-wagon roof." She complained that his 2010 campaign book No Apology didn't mention it, calling it "a critical oversight."

They will ask eventually. Nd they’ll ask Palin if she had sex before marriage and ask Perry if he changes his underwear everyday. I mean ask real questions - nope.

Maybe the dog wanted to be up there with the fresh air and all, and not tying him down would be irresponsible. I’m kidding, but is this really true?

"So, Governor Perry, which is it? Boxers or Briefs?"

"So, Governor Palin, what are they? Real or Silicone?"

"So, Governor Palin, which is it? Maidenform or Playtex"

Insert your own inane question here...

It's true. The family noticed the Dog wasn't into the trip when his bowels let loose out of fear.

Well yeah. In politics do something dumb: tweet pictures of your gentlemans’ appendage, or tie a dog to the roof of your car, that’s what people remember.

Too bad she’s not obsessed with his support of the assault weapons ban when he was governor.

Yes it is. And the dog commented on Romney from a great height.

I’m not a fan of Mitford Romney, but someone needs to let Gail Collins know that Mr. Romney is already married.

Which is why I have reservations of Palin for the nod. I like her tons ‘n tons, but wince at the thought of what the press will do to her and her large family to dredge stuff up.

MARK DAYTON LEAVES HIS DOGS IN THE CAR DURING PRESS CONFERENCE

Today, Mark Dayton held a press conference at the State Capitol while he left his two German Shepard dogs in the car for over 40 minutes in this 90 degree heat.

They have had their A-Team trying to dig stuff up on her for 3 yrs now. If there was anything there I think it would have been found by now. I mean, now they are trying to wreck her because she dated before marriage. Twits.

Gail Collins needs “to put some ice on it”.

Mitt is such a square, he has no pot smoking, coke snorting, girl chasing, criminal-pal house-buying, no casino owners lining his pockets, no lobbyists giving him gifts (what do you give the man who made half a billion) ... he’s got 5 clean cut kids.

So what, oh what, do you go after him for?

Trivia. the very *insignificance* of the event and the obsession with it tells you a lot about how little they have on Romney wrt character.

After all, is the NYTimes going to attack Romney by saying “hey, he’s not that conservative.”?

I do wonder - when she talks about Clinton, does she ever mention Monica? Does she saw “the impeached Clinton” ? or Obama, does she bring up Frank Davis Marshall? ever? Solyndra? Fast and furious? etc.

If he gets the nod, they’ll put him at the party on Chappaquiddick.
