I would hardly say he got his butt handed to him in the first debate. He had good moments, and strengthened his support. He also successfully made it a Romney vs. Perry race. The rest of the field fell back several steps, other than Romney who also held serve. He was not nearly as impressive on the fly as I expected, and had missed opportunities on several occasions. He was stronger in the second debate, and I fully agree he has to continue to improve before I would be confident in his ability to fare well in fall 2012.
Saying he lost is pretty big spin, though. The losers in that debate last week were Bachmann, Huntsman and Santorum.
This week, Bachmann did better, but Paul and Hunstman continued to look buffoonish. Romney and Perry held their positions as front runners.
