This result is a rebuke to Barack Obama, but it is a rebuke as wella stinging one, perhaps more stingingto Senator Charles Schumer. He represented much of this district for 18 years and the now disgraced Anthony Weiner was his staffer and pretty obviously Schumers chosen successor as congressman when he ran successfully for the Senate in 1998. In addition, Schumer has made it his special project to win back white middle class voters in places like metro New York for the Democratic party. In January 2007, just in time for the new Democratic majority in Congress, he published a book, Positively American: Winning Back the Middle-Class Majority One Family at a Time. It is a thoughtful essay on how Democrats can win the votes of the kind of voter Schumer himself has won over in his career as a congressman and senator, with specific policy recommendations as well as public relations advice. As one of the three Democratic leaders of the Democratic majority in the Senateand by common consent the one who outshines in intellect the other two put togetherSchumer has played an important role in fashioning Democratic policies, including but not limited to the 2009 stimulus package and Obamacare.

It the Democrats had known they were going to lose this seat, Weiner would still be a Congressman.
agree
Excellent piece. Thanks for posting. I am really enjoying this victory! What an amazing repudiation of Obama and Schumer. Never thought I would see the day when a Republican would win a Congressional seat in a NY district such as this.
It takes a Carter to make a Reagan.
It just keeps getting better and better! Thanks for posting this.
The financial regs supported by Schumer are primarily responsible for the decline of NY as the worlds financial capital.
I still think Weprin’s embrace of the Ground Zero Mosque cost him bigtime.
My liberal uncle emailed me this morning and finally confessed: “We know Obama is going to lose in a landlside. I admit it.”
LOL!
Hopefully, Chuckie is next!
YOU HIT IT RIGHT ON THE HEAD!! GREAT STATEMENT!!!
Yup. And Obama is even worse than Carter. The Dems are in a tough place now. Do they stick with Obummer through the Fast and Furious and Porkulus investigations? If the Repubs are smart they will drag these hearings and investigations out as long as possible. Drip, drip, drip... the water torture routine will slowly build until Nov next year.
Or do the Dems kick the Obozo to the curb through a primary challenge and likely rip their party to smithereens? Hee, hee, hee...
One could almost construe the GOP wins yesterday in NY and NV as the rebuttal to Obama’s jobs speech to the Joint Session of Congress.
How sweet it is! (hat tip: Jackie Gleason)
What wonderful news to wake up to. I did not even follow who was running against the Dem because I told myself that is a lost cause!
But then a primary challenge will split the party, and make the black voters angry. Black voters may still give 90+% of their vote to the Democrat nominee other than Obama, but the enthusiasm and voter turnout will be lower, which could make a big difference in some states.
Dems. are between a rock and a hard place.
The only solution which might make everyone happy is if Obama decides not to run for re-election, which would open up the Democrat primaries to Hillary and others without it being a case of Obama being pushed out.
One would like to see the exhalted Mayor meet the same fate.
Excellent point.
With Baraq being the Black Saviour, it’s going to be REALLY difficult for the Dems to shunt him aside for Nov 2012.
And with Baraq’s world class hubris, don’t expect him to take one for the team.
No, I think we can look forward to Toxic Baraq Syndrome continuing to plague Dems right thru Nov 2012.
Yes. I suspect they will try to get Obummer to do an LBJ. But this will be tough for the narcissist in chief to swallow.
