n Monday nights debate, Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum all seemed to be auditioning for the role that Jude Law plays in the film Contagion -- Alan Krumwiede, a blogger who tells millions that a vaccine to combat a lethal pathogen is actually dangerous, and claims both the epidemic and vaccine were created by government to enrich drug companies.
Krumwiedes conspiracy theory proves deadly -- and so will these Republicans, if anyone listens.
....Dont be distracted by legitimate, but minor, questions about how states should make public-health decisions: The thrust of this attack is garbage -- and deadly garbage at that. The anti-vaccine psuedo-science behind the charge has been thoroughly discredited.
By alleging that vaccines cause retardation and brain damage, Bachmann is providing aid and comfort to such groups as Generation Rescue, which still defend the now-discredited claims that vaccines cause autism. (The Lancet decertified Andrew Wakefields study last year. This year, the British Medical Journal showed his research was bogus to boot.)
All three candidates slammed Texas Gov. Rick Perry for requiring immunization of 12-year-old girls against the human papilloma virus, a leading cause of cervical cancer. The attack truly became a blogworthy screed as we heard about how Perry and Merck (the developer of Gardasil, one of the two HPV vaccines) profited from the mandate at the expense of childrens health.
....Unless other Republicans confront Bachmann or she changes her tune, fewer parents will vaccinate their kids. More children will die. Tragically, life will imitate art.

Neither of my points is a lie.
I understand that Perry is your candidate and you could well say he’s your candidate despite his showing his authoritarian and likely corrupt leanings with this major misstep on his part.
But what his executive order would have done is require insurance companies to provide it free. You’re quite right, it was already covered by Medicaid, so his move did nothing to make it more cheaply available to low-income parents. But earlier on this thread you justified his move by saying you didn’t care how it was made more cheaply available for all, you just wanted it provided cheaply for all (which in Perry’s case meant making all purchasers of health insurance in the state pay for it at $360 per student covered).
As to the opt out, sure, parents didn’t have to travel hundreds and hundreds of miles to Austin just to get their daughters out of it, but all my earlier points pertained—it was expensive (upping health insurance rates for those who opted out), slow, multiprocess and impractical (keeping some kids out of school for a period of time).
ohh..and throw in parachutes too!....seat-belts, helmets, air-breaks and parachutes...Yeah!..that’s the ticket!....The end of the ride is the best part!... What could possibly go wrong??
That might get some attention.
And for the thread, I’d like to point out that Gov. Perry has stated that he hates cancer (who doesn’t). He didn’t “mandate” anything, he was trying to make available a life saving vaccine for a disease that has skyrocketed. Perry’s wife was trained as a nurse and actively worked in nursing for 17 years. Anita Perry still is involved in health care issues in Texas. Rick Perry’s father-in-law was a family doctor in West Texas. Rick Perry’s parents both have had cancer.
I rest my case your Honor!
You may be overlooking the risk factor of naivete which is epidemic in young adults. One may contract an STD from a promiscuous partner one trusts.
Right again. Mandatory innoculations have been around for decades. Measles, diptheria, whooping cough etc REQUIRED for enrollement in government schools. So was polio when I was young. (does that date me?) Let’s all just have a public cat fight over issues that don’t really matter.
I thought Gardasil only protected (when it does) against four strains of HPV, and that there were over 30. This is being sold as some sort of panacea and it isn’t.
I really miss those little pus filled bumps that we all used to get. What did they call them? Oh yes, small pox. I long for the good ol’ days.
If your notion of individual liberty comes into conflict with their pet issues, they will mock you as mercilessly as any DU mouthbreather.
The urge to control others is apparently bred deep into many.
.......But what his executive order would have done is require insurance companies to provide it free.
Are all childhood vaccines free?
I haven't had to have a child vaccinated lately.
When you go to the doctor, they're free now?

A question: Is something that will save lives worth anything to you?
OMG don’t tell me that you are being accused of working for Perry? FR has really gone insane....
bttt
LOL, that's rich.
May I ask how many hours you've spent in thhe last two days posting on this topic?
Seat belts and helmets are not mandates.
Seat belt laws, and helmet laws, most certainly are mandates of the nanny state.
Both represent statism. Clearly so. Good example.
In fact, recall when seat belt laws were first introduced, it was very clearly stated, one would not receive a ticket for not wearing a seat belt, unless stopped for some other issue.
Well, that has changed. It always does.
I’ve been stopped, for not wearing a seat belt.
No other reason. Cop said that’s why he pulled me over. I ended up not getting a ticket, but that’s why he stopped me.
A number of states do not have motorcycle helmet laws.
As things should be.
BACHMANN: Well, of course, I don't know the thoughts and the intents of the governor's heart. I have no idea what they are, nor would I speculate.
But it didn't stop her for one minute in accusing a Fortune 100 company and a sitting Texas governor of felonies before a live national audience.
Has Bachmann said anything about the criminal activities of the current regime such as F&F or does she just recklessly and maliciously accuse Republicans of high crimes and misdemeanors?
She obviously rejects the whole idea of innocent until proven guilty especially when the accused is a Republican - sadly a sentiment that is growing here at FR
Oh, the drama!
The tone of this thread borders on hysteria.
