AKELAND - Two and half months is a long time to be stuck in the hospital, especially if you don't really have to be there. Yvonne Gallimore has been living at Lakeland Regional Medical Center because she had no place else to go.

Now, she finally does. Gallimore just moved into a duplex provided by the Lakeland Housing Authority. It's a big improvement, but not easy living yet. It has big, French doors, so she can get out quickly in case of an emergency.

"I was glad to get out of there," she said on Monday.

When emergency workers took Gallimore to the hospital a few months ago, they had to take down the bedroom wall of her old place because they couldn't get her out any other way.

After a FOX 13 viewer saw her story, she donated $100,000 to help.

“Someone has to be an enabler. She wouldn’t be able to fix her own food or even make it to the kitchen.”

"And the worst part was that every day, she had to ask herself the question, “would it just be easier if my leg was amputated?”

In the middle of reading the second paragraph of your comments, I had already decided that the leg would come off, were it mine. It surprises me that the doctors had not given her that decision already.

Why don't you educate yourself on the topic before you post an article with the sole intent to disparage the subject?
This woman has been battling a debilitating illness for over 17 years.
She didn't “eat her way” into this condition, and no amount of “healthy living” will ever get her out of it.

Sure sounds like obvious disability to me, cue in SS benefits.
BTW, you do know she once worked, and also paid taxes don't you?
No?
Pardon me for not forgiving your ugly, disgusting, self-righteous, ignorant rant about a neighbor./sarcasm//

Are you one of the bureaucrats in the Social Security office that routinely deny all claims, hoping the taxpayer dies of frustration first? Just curious.
