"No hunting on Sundays? Never heard of it here out west - unbelievable."
Its a remnant of the infamous "Blue Laws" enacted here in Pennsylvania many years ago. All of these laws revolved around morality and setting aside Sunday as the Christian sabbath day. For instance, the reason that the Steelers and Eagles both joined the NFL in 1933 is because that was the first year they repealed the blue law forbidding professional sports being played on Sundays. Some other blue laws still around, you can't have car dealerships open on Sundays or Beer distribitorships.

North Carolina just lifted the Sunday ban this year...but only for bow-hunters...which I personally think is a perfect middle ground position that satisfies hunters AND land owners.
Of course, the downside is that although I live in NC, I own land in VA...which still has the Sunday ban...can't win for losin'.

. Some other blue laws still around, you can't have car dealerships open on Sundays or Beer distribitorships. But the Commonwealth-owned "Wine and Spirits" shops open at Noon and motorcycle dealerships were recently allowed limited afternoon hours as well. Go figure.
