As a parent who agreed to get both of my daughter vaccinated years ago, here are my reasons:

We did our research and spoke with some very good communicable disease doctors about it. (A benefit of having a wife that works at a big hospital and knows all of the department heads.)

We knew that this vaccine would help prevent a very preventable cancer.

While it is sexually transmitted, getting the vaccine was not a “license” to have sex. Any good parent can deal with that issue. Getting the vaccine early in life gives it the best chance to work properly.

If you discuss sexuality, and reinforce the many issues—both moral and “practical” with young teenagers you can help them make the right decisions over and over.

And finally, I realized that I had sex before I got married. I am a good person. I am a moral person. If I did it, I could guess there was a good probability they were going to have sex before marriage.

Based on that thought process, we decided to get our kids vaccinated.

That said, I would have been pissed if the government made that call for me.

You chose it for your minor children — fine. That’s the way it ought to be. An item on the market that can be chosen, and perhaps recommended by personal physicians.

I’m willing to chalk up Bachmann’s mode of objecting to the mandate to being very mother-like, although she could stand to take a chill pill or two to keep from going overboard in the future. She is a jealous mama — jealous for American freedom and strength. I like that. If she doesn’t make the top spot, she ought to have a prominent position in that person’s cabinet.

“While it is sexually transmitted”

Sadly, it’s not just sexually transmitted.

Unsanitary classmates and an unwashed handshake can do it.

As can public laundry facilities if you don’t bleech your underwear.

“While it is sexually transmitted, getting the vaccine was not a “license” to have sex. Any good parent can deal with that issue.”

Well put. And not to mention that everyone keeps talking about “sexually transmitted”. It can also be spread with even kissing. And even more fun,,,it’s extremely widespread in the general population. About 75% prevalence in the general population.
Being against mandatory vaccine,,ok. But acting like the vaccine is somehow immoral and unneeded if you will just be a good Christian is pure ignorance.
