The American way is not to give taxpayer-subsidized benefits to people who have broken our laws and are here in the United States illegally, Bachmann said at the CNN/Tea Party Express debate.
Perry defended the law, saying it was a states rights issue.
We were clearly sending a message to young people that, regardless of what the sound of their last name is, that we believe in you, Perry said.

First of all, the government is still reporting erroneously, (as they have for over a decade), that there are 12 million illegal immigrants here. What a joke that is, when we know that thousands come across our border each day. There are literally millions of paths into the USA along the 2,000 mile stretch.
Second, I do think many will 'self deport', when conditions are as deplorable here for them, as they are in their Homeland. Why would they want to stay, when their family is south of the border - and they receive nothing here?
Many have left AZ to return home, (or take up residency in other states), because it is becoming difficult for them to make a living here, with Governor Brewer and Sheriff Joe Arpaio setting the standard.

OK, forgive me if I seriously doubt that you would have surrendered at Bastogne instead of telling the Germans "Nuts!"
You pretend that poor Perry was forced to sign the "Dream Act" bill that he opposed, that he did not agree with it?
No, it is evident that Perry was not opposed. On the contrary, when asked about it at the debate, he put salt in the wound by pretending that tha law remedied a system which discriminated by "Last Name." Now I would not be too surprised to hear such subtle demagoguery coming from Debby Wasserman Schultz, but not from a conservative Texas governor.
Rather than pretend Perry did not want to sign the dream act, a better argument for you might be to defend Perry's real reason: He thought it was a great idea.
Laws should be passed AND ENFORCED applying severe economic and other penalties to anyone employing, harboring, or otherwise aiding and abetting illegal immigrants. If this leads to criminal activity, we should be prepared for it.
If the economic incentive is removed, illegal immigrants will leave of their own volition. They can then apply for visas or citizenship.
The vitriol from these Perrybots is palpable. If we don’t bow at the alter of Perry we’re haters and zealots. They reach the level of the Paulbots of old. I’d say it may be in the water but there are sufficient Texans supporting other candidates to rule that out.
That tells me it’s purpose is to shout down anything remotely unkind. And that makes me believe there has to be far more behind the mask that we can imagine. They don’t understand, I’m sure, but their meanness is working against them.
The Democrats want amnesty and more open borders because that means millions more people on welfare, dependent on the Federal Government, voting Democrat, and keeping these predatory, self-serving, luxury-loving parasites in office.
Democrat strategy--the strategy that keeps Democrat politicians in office--is to get more and more people dependent upon government and consequently voting for Democrat politicians.
It's the same old "bread and circuses" strategy that's been around since Roman times, destroyed the Roman Republic and gave the world the Roman Empire, one of humanity's most dubious achievements.
If the Democrats succeed with their nefarious strategy--prepare your children for a Livia, a Tiberius, a Nero, and a Caligula.
Are you saying that what Texas colleges and universities charge for tuition or our requirements for in-state tuition, is YOUR business?
You must remember, like it or not the same kids have gone to Texas schools FREE for years according to federal law!
At least they are paying tuition!
It's nice to see that someone else has made the same observations that I have. Millions seem unable to see the obvious.
The G. W. Bush Presidency was a disaster for the U.S. and the American people.
I live and vote in Texas. I do not support the Texas Dream Act, although it was passed by the legislature and signed, so it is the current law.
The main question for me is whether Rick Perry would be a POTUS like GWB, who wanted 10s of millions of new voters, who would vote to the left, via a national amnesty. What Perry has said lately is hardly reassuring. I also have other concerns about naturalizing so many people so quickly, but for the moment I will focus on voting. I do not want to see freedom, justice, and the economy destroyed because politicians want to import leftist voters, and it is a betrayal of America for GOP politicians to go along with it.
You can claim that Perry is for the Dream Act but not for amnesty, but his recent statements indicate he is open to amnesty "If the border is secure," which is what most politicians say.
Romney may be worse on immigration than Perry, and it may turn out that the GOP nominee, whoever it is, will be like GWB. If that happens, and that person becomes POTUS, I want us to face it with eyes open, and be ready to fight him or her on amnesty.
If the Texas in-state tuition is lower than California's (and other expensive states') in state rate, I would expect an increase in applications from those states to Texas schools, and a big budget problem.
I also do not believe that illegal aliens should be attending colleges here at all, unless they have some extraordindary abilities, but that's a different debate.
Also important to note is that Obama didn't even try to pass amnesty when he had 60 votes in the senate. GOP legislators, and even some Dems, seem to oppose a Dem POTUS trying to pass amnesty, but if a GOP POTUS pushes amnesty, GOP legislators seem to think it's a great idea, at least until their phones start ringing.
Thanks ding_dong_daddy_from_dumas.
people like Trump do change and see the light...but Perry and Romney are both not admitting very bad and liberal policies as governors. I am sick of the same old crap over and over again.
Excellent points, DDDD.
I’m sick of this “last name” crap. Americans show a lot more respect for Mexicans than Mexican show to Americans. When Americans visit Mexico, they do it legally with permission from the government and people of Mexico. I am so tired of being disrespected by the Mexican people and our own government and media.
You are so right about illegal immigration being the litmus test of candidates. Illegal immigration is about everything that is wrong with this country today; lying to the citizens, buying votes, cheap labor for unscrupulous employers, Americans losing jobs, Americans losing their votes and sovereignty, crony capitalism, name calling of American citizens and government kickbacks. It is all wrapped up in a neat package.
Oh no, states can’t do anything on their own? Look at what Arizona has done. God bless Arizona.
Please don’t skip the presidential vote. Vote for the best person that you can, don’t vote for the one who everyone says can win. Just vote your conscience. Please don’t skip the presidency vote because millions of people did that in 2008 and that is how we got Obama.
La Raza just eats up all this “last name” stuff with a spoon. This is causing friction between the races and it is not necessary.
John Stossel calls it "Crapitalism" :)
Unfortunately, the term was first used by leftists to describe.... well, I'm not sure, something they hated, like "rich people."
