Ron Paul was roundly booed at the GOP debate after very unpopular comments about US foreign policies in the Arab world.
Since September 2001, Ive spent over 72 months deployed between AD then retirement in places such as Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Turkey, Ethiopia and Djibouti. It is NOT because of our Freedom, trust me. Its blow back from stupid misguided interventions, picking one crappy place over the other, where we had no real national interest, but making money case in point our recent involvement (and still ongoing) in Libya . Mark my words, Gaddafi was certainly no saint, but we were far off better with him in power than who will succeed him

So you blame America for 9/11.
Paul is your guy then.
Do you side with the terrorists on this one as well?

>>It is NOT because of our Freedom, trust me.<<
No, I do NOT trust you.
I know enough about Islam and its adherents to know they are about dominating and forcing every infidel into submission to Allah. Period.
(See video I just posted for an example)
Your trying to blame America is a pack of lies. Sell it on down the road.
And take your looney-tunes candidate with you.
Well you just stay there in your recliner watching Fox news and be the full informed guy on world affairs that you obviously are!
Paul believes we deserved to be attacked on 9/11.
What’s your response to that, Paultard?
For the record, I am an Southern Baptist Christian but I really doubt if you know much about Islam or Christianity or the history of the Middle East, unless it written by AIPAC. Take care, good morning in Texas and good night from where I am keeping the world safe for Neocons, Chicken hawks and their Sycophants and who have had better things to do.”
It’s a disgrace to say something like this the day after the tenth anniversary of 9/11
Ugh. I’m a libertarian (more or less) and firmly believe we meddle in world affairs way too much. But Paul’s comments take the cake. Blaming ourselves for 9-11 is like blaming the Holocaust on British and French appeasement of Hitler.
Domestically, I think we are screwed if we don’t reign in spending dramatically and cut the size and scope of government by a decent margin. And, IMO, that includes the military. Paul’s positions on these things make him an attractive candidate to me.
But his blindingly stupid comment on 9/11 just make my head explode.
You will have to substantiate that claim. That is what we do here on FR with claims that look to be wild. So, as soon as you cite that reference, I will reply.
In the mean time, I am still waiting for the answer to the question I posed to you. It is a policy question, an important one I think in these times of wars and tight budgets.
To give you that question again, for the second time, do we need all 900 military bases around the world or would we be better to redirect those expenses in a defensive stance rather than a military one?
Remember, liberals try to wriggle out of answering questions by changing subjects or resorting to ad hominem attack. Here on FR we face tough issues, debate them.
“I really doubt if you know much about Islam or Christianity or the history of the Middle East”
Wrong on all counts. But go ahead, keep blaming America.
Victor Davis Hanson writes it much better than I ever could.
Why did radical Islamic terrorists kill almost 3,000 Americans a decade ago?
Few still believe the old myth that U.S. foreign policy or support for Israel logically earned us Osama bin Ladens wrath. After all, the U.S. throughout the 1990s had saved Islamic peoples from Bosnia and Kosovo to Somalia and Kuwait. Russia and China, in contrast, had oppressed or killed tens of thousands of their own Muslims without much fear of provoking al-Qaeda.
Moreover, thousands of Arabs have been killed recently, but by their own Libyan and Syrian governments, not Israeli Defense Forces. Al-Qaeda still issues death threats to Americans even though its original pretexts for going to war such as U.S. troops stationed in Saudi Arabia have long been irrelevant.
On this ten-year anniversary of 9/11, no one has yet refuted the general truth that bin Laden tried to hijack popular Arab discontent over endemic poverty and self-induced misery. In cynical Hitlerian fashion, al-Qaedas propagandists sought to blame the mess of the Arab Middle East on Jews and foreigners, rather than seeking to address homegrown corrupt kleptocracies, inefficient statism, indigenous tribalism, gender apartheid, and religious fundamentalism and intolerance.
Past Western appeasement of terrorism only convinced the manipulative bin Laden that he might kill Westerners without much fear of retaliation, as he presented himself to the Islamic street as the new Saladin who had humbled the Western infidel.
What did they do when the booing started? ;-)
As much as our efforts, OBL and AQ’s willingness to slaughter other Arabs and Muslims led to their demise. Nothing erodes support among the Arab masses than blowing up wedding parties because the participants were “Muslim enough”.
Good grief....I thought for a moment that I'd accidentally made a left turn and ended up on DU.
I've spent the last 7+ years deployed in Iraq working with the troops and I heartily disagree with you.
Nanci Pelousi, Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein, Chuck Schumer, Chris Dodd, Bwawney Fwank, Harry Reid, Sheila Jackson Lee, Maxine Waters, Jerry Brown, Charlie Rangel, . . . . . . . et al.
All these people have successfully run for and been reelected to office. Some of them numerous times. Yet, these are people who are completely off their rockers. Just because the people in R-U-N Paul's district aren't smart enough to figure out how crazy Paul is doesn't mean he's not crazy.
