TAMPA, Fla. -- Key moments in Monday night's GOP presidential debate:

---

Big moment:

To open the debate, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney immediately went after each other on Social Security - with Perry defending his inflammatory language and Romney accusing Perry of scaring seniors.

"It has been called a Ponzi scheme by many people long before me," Perry said. The Texas governor has also called the social safety net a "monstrous lie."

Perry is being deliberately deceitful when he speaks about illegal aliens being denied in-state tuition rates because they have last names that sound different. The issue their illegal presence in the country, not their names, and he knows that. Does Rick Perry think we are stupid?

Try Youtube. Each debate has been uploaded so far. The last one was broken into 4 parts.

Unlike a lot of the criticism directed toward Perry, this is a legitimate complaint. Perry has an emotional side, and I think that explains Gardasil and the weakness on the immigration issue. Nevertheless, I don’t know of a single candidate on that stage that will stand up and say that we need to let the illegals know that they are unwelcome and need to go home immediately. So, I don’t think that Perry is worse than the others in that respect, but it is something that I have criticized him for as Governor.

She looked awful and her comment backfired on her.
Perry whacked her over the head with his reply.
She was a real witch in the debate.
She appears to be working with Romney too!

Newt came off the best again.

Ron Paul is now the ONLY anti-war candidate in this race. That’s why he is going to win.

Yes, totally inaccurate - he was saying it was a monstrous lie to claim the program could continue in its present form for the younger people who will retire many years from now - which is completely accurate. In addition, the treason quote is another one they don’t bother with being accurate - the way Wolf Blitzer was using it as a question was pitiful - Perry was very respectful but if I had been him I would have interrupted and asked that he stop asking an inaccurate question.

Did they seriously spend 10 minutes on Gardasil? I was one of the first people to criticize Perry for this when it happened. But what Bachmann said about this was so way over the top, it stinks to high heaven.

The Gardasil issue is a strike against Perry--but it's simply not worth 10 minutes of debate time.

His Blame America First rhetoric was brought out into the open when 9/11 was discussed - good to see him get unmasked in that regard on the national stage to show he is not a credible candidate for President. If need be his support of candidates who openly supported physical attacks on President Bush, go overseas and encourage troops to desert their posts, promot 9/11 truth, etc. should also be exposed at the next debate.

Did any of them even discuss the pathetic "jobs (union paybacks)" Bill that Bammy wants "passed, right away"?

I watched most of the debate, but don't recall discussion about this pathetic piece of crap.

Yeah. I hear a lot of chatter with the GOP base for a McGovern style candidate to vote for.

Paul was booed off the stage he is so wanted by the base.

“RP is waffling on issues on which he used to be clear and right.”

sounded like even he was going soft on SS just to give attention to his idea that we should cut the military to the bone and use it to pay for SS.

She knows she has no chance at winning the nomination so she’s really running to be romney’s VP. That’s my call and you can hold me to it.
