Perry repeatedly found himself in the crosshairs, as the field of candidates took turns attacking his positions on illegal immigration, Social Security, and his controversial 2007 push to vaccinate Texas schoolgirls against human papillomavirus, a common sexually transmitted that can lead to cervical cancer. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, whose standing among Republicans has slipped dramatically since Perry entered the race, said she was "offended" by Perry's executive order, which included an opt-out provision for parents who did not want the vaccine.

The point is, he didn’t screw up. And never should’ve apologized for it. He should be taking that krap right back into the faces of people like Michelle Bachmann and Santorum.

“VIOXX remember was a Merck Drug. At least Perry CARES about LIFE.”

Some people apparently think that anyone who has premarital teenage sex should just die. Idiots, like that guy who shouted YES!

I'm surprised that so many people are jumping on the Perry bandwagon around here. Perry has not shown me anything special since he got into this race. He is just your typical politician who is a member of the club. If he gets the presidency, nothing will change and another liberal Democrat will replace him in four years - maybe eight.

When Reagan was running for president, there was something special about him. You knew that things would change if he got in - and change for the better. Unfortunately the Republicans haven't nominated anybody that inspiring since. George Herbert Walker Bush...Bob Dole...John McCain. I actually liked George W Bush, but aside from how he handled 9/11, he was basically a disappointment as he seemed so passive and allowed his critics to get the best of him.

Rick Perry does not inspire me and while he undoubtably would be a major improvement over the current occupant of the White House, I do not see him advancing the conservative cause at all. Why are so many of us willing to settle for another mediocrity?

We have some candidates in this race with real passion...Herman Cain, Rick Santorum, Michelle Bachmann and yes, waiting in the wings, Sarah Palin, who reminds me of Reagan more than anybody else.

I want a game-changer as our next president. Not a placeholder.

We are free Americans. We don’t need an “opt out”. It’s none of their damn business. You are an apologetic facist.

Certainly! But he cannot “deem it to be for the good of the people” when he doesn’t bother to carefully review the research and clinical studies of a brand new drug. That is criminal negligence when the first girl dies - not from cancer, from Gardisil!

“I thought it was Huntsman calling Perry guilty of treason for saying we should have a whole border fence.”

It was Perry Huntsman said this about, and it was a bad attempt at a joke because of Perry using the word treasonous when speaking of Ben Bernanke of the Federal Reserve doing a QE3 (quantitative easing, in other words printing money). It was a dig at Perry.

I must say though, that it humors me to listen to the squawking on this and other threads about Perry when those who fervently back him hear anything that indicates Perry may have clay feet, just like any other professional pol whose been in the gov’t business for as long as he has (about 30-35 years now). Especially when Perry is attacked for the crony capitalism he has participated in. Instantly jumping to his defense by any means necessary to justify that which can’t be justified, along with Perry’s illegal immigrants stance (free tuition for illegals) and other very un-Tea Party like behavior on Perry’s part.

“His answer tonight on in-state tuition for illegals, for example, was absurd. “

True. But just as he will have to deal with SS in the general, the others will have to deal with latinos with their approach to illegals in the general.

I agree. Perry is no conservative. I don’t understand why so many want to settle for the same old same old wishy washy RINO politician. I will absolutely support Perry if he wins the primary. But, this country NEEDS a true conservative (such as Palin, Cain or Bachmann) who will stand on conservative principles and refuse to compromise.

There is no free tuition for illegals in Texas. There never has been. There never will be. This is yet another lie being perpetuated about Perry, and a significant reason why we who know the man “jump to his defense.”

“this vaccine was a federal program with tons of oversight and was more than likely a loss for the drug company.

“non one makes money on a federal vaccine program.”

I think you forgot the sarc. tag.

“When Reagan was running for president, there was something special about him.”

Trust me, if he was running today he would be labeled the biggest rino of them all. Oh he raised taxes, the deficit, appointed Sandra Day o’connor, passed amnesty bill in 1986, had Bush for VP etc...
