Perry repeatedly found himself in the crosshairs, as the field of candidates took turns attacking his positions on illegal immigration, Social Security, and his controversial 2007 push to vaccinate Texas schoolgirls against human papillomavirus, a common sexually transmitted that can lead to cervical cancer. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, whose standing among Republicans has slipped dramatically since Perry entered the race, said she was "offended" by Perry's executive order, which included an opt-out provision for parents who did not want the vaccine.

so sorry you’re so stupid
Don’t hate perry, haven’t said anything about him here. He’s not perfect but then none of em are.
No, it wasn’t, not to Rick Perry. But it was to the liberals Women in Government who took a couple of $million dollars of Merck money to scare the pants off Texas parents and the many Texas parents were calling for the vaccination.
Here’s the deal about Gardasil and it needs to be put to rest:
In 2003 Rick Perry, four years before Gardasil was approved, signed a bill that for the first time in Texas history allowed parents to OPT OUT of ANY immunizations that parents deemed were dangerous to their children.
DO YOU GET THAT? ANY immunizations they deem dangerous to their children.
When Texas parents were yelling they wanted it and yelling they didn’t want it, the Texas legislature stalled.
In the meantime the feds said make it avaiable and make it paid for under SCHIP and Medicaid. In order to get it paid for it has to be a mandated immunization. So Perry just wrote an ExO that mandated it so the ones that wanted it could get it, and gave everybody else the opt out that hadn’t take taken THE ANY OPT OUT in 2003!
It’s that simple! And Perry should NEVER apologize for it.
Seems it is a communicable disease. In this society of promiscious Sex encourage by the STATE Perry was right.
save the O/R cracks.
“Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers that affect a woman’s reproductive organs. Various strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted infection, play a role in causing most cases of cervical cancer.
When exposed to HPV, a woman’s immune system typically prevents the virus from doing harm. In a small group of women, however, the virus survives for years before it eventually converts some cells on the surface of the cervix into cancer cells. Cervical cancer occurs most often in women over age 30.”
I agree the makers are the ones responsible. However, the govt people forcing it on everyone and the medical people pushing it are also to blame. Doctors get a lot of benefits from pushing drugs. Walk into a urologists office and the walls are papered with viagra ads.
Gosh knows I agree with you! I thought each of them had some terrific points and some real stinkers. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could take all the pluses, eliminate the negatives, roll them into 1 and have perfection. I thought all of them made for a fine selection of candidates. I was very proud to be a Republican tonight. I will vote for any one of them, because the worst of them would be lightyears ahead of BO.
Trafficant 2012
Not really a way to gain favor for your preferred candidate; attacking other candidates who’s supporters you will need later on down the road. Hmmm...maybe the tag line is a ruse... Just like saying you didn’t become a member until 2009 when a quick search of FR shows you first posted in September of 2008, just around the time Romney was making behind the scenes attacks on Palin. Curious...
I think that gardisil was invented to prevent a communicable disease that leads to cancer. It is a danger to the public that engage in unprotected sex with multiple partners.
It was a mistake to order the vaccine as though it were measles, but Perry has admitted that the decision should have gone to the legislature and the people.
He has said all along that it should be a state issue.
If this is the biggest thing that you have against Perry, then you should vote for him.
Calling people who disagree with you "HATERS" is a liberal tactic perfected by liberals over the past ten years or so.
It precludes rational debate by smearing those who disagree. It's the same tactic as liberals calling people who disagree with Obama's policies "racists".
Anyone who would spout such trash had to be a raving lunatic. I just looked it up. Over 35 million Gard vaccines given and zero death can be attributed to it. 60 deaths total from the 35 million recipients, but they were unrelated to Gard — car accidents, etc. This from the CDC. 4,000 women die annually from cervical cancer. How that comes to Gardasil killing more people than cervical cancer I’ll never know.
Perry is vulnerable on Gardasil and border security in the primary. His answer tonight on in-state tuition for illegals, for example, was absurd.
He is also vulnerable on Social Security in the general. On most every other issue he is a solid conservative who is right on the money.
For many though, that is not enough. I now honestly think we are going to successfully destroy ALL of our candidates and hand the election to Hussein on a silver platter.
How depressing.
Don’t be stupid. I’m not trying gain favor for my candidate. Perry haters will never vote for him. They’ll “write in” their candidate, and Obama will thank them.
So true, anyone who has been in govt is going to have some flaws in his background. I have always really liked Rick Santorum. He seems to have brains and selfless dedication to country. And yet he’s at rock bottom, I don’t get it. But I will vote for Perry and give up my love for Santorum if it looks like Perry can beat Obama.
The Perry haters are desperate !
It’s about judgement and corporate corruption.Palin told her head of HHS not in Alaska.Check her e-mails.
“The only exception should be communicably diseases which are a danger to the public. I dont want the government telling me or mine what care we can, cant or must have. Maybe you want Obama/Romney care, but I dont.”
At least get your fats straight on Cer.Can.
Dr Perry screwed up and has admitted it. Thats fine, everyone makes mistakes. I have more respect for someone that admits a mistake than someone that tries to whitewash what everyone knows was bad bad medicine.
