There are POWs who dispute that McCain was tortured. The North Vietnamese knew he was an Admiral’s son and treated him differently.
Most of his physical problems were caused by the plane crash, itself. He had crashed two planes previously. If he hadn’t been an admiral’s son, I doubt he would have been allowed a third plane.
