Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) endorsed former Massachussetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) on Monday.
Pawlenty, who dropped out of the presidential race after a disappointing showing in the influential Iowa Straw Poll, called Romney "the complete package" and said that Romney's economic experience was a deciding factor in winning his endorsement.
"I believe he is going to be our party's nominee," Pawlenty said on Fox News's "Fox and Friends."
"I think he's going to be a transformational and great president for this country," Pawlenty added.
Pawlenty also said he would not consider being the Republican vice presidential nominee.
In the same interview Pawlenty also jabbed Romney opponent Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) for writing in his book "Fed Up!" that Social Security was a failed program. Pawlenty said Romney wanted to fix Social Security which was also the former Minnesota governor's stance. In the last few weeks Romney and Perry have repeatedly hit each other on their stances on Social Security.
"Governor Perry has said in the past that he thought it was failed," Pawlenty said.
In a followup email Pawlenty doubled down on Romney's economic qualifications for winning his endorsement.
"Mitt Romney is running for president, and I am proud to endorse him," Pawlenty said in a email blasted out by the Romney campaign shortly after he appeared on Fox and Friends. "Romney is running for president because he is deeply committed to our country, troubled by its current condition, and I believe he can turn it around."
The two GOP front runners are more of the same. Maybe one less than the other on the surface but rest assured the outcome will likely be very close to the same for both candidates.
Auditioning for a gig with the Associated Press?
A space alien from Mars could within minutes find all kinds of significant difference in the two GOP front runners. Compare religion, upbringing, military service, education, culture, wealth, their friends, political advisers and baggage. You actually think there is anything comparable in that mix?
Exactly how does Gardasil and RomneyCare compare? How about Texas and Massacusetts, other than largely English speaking, and some may even question that, the two states don't compare in any material way.
Only liars, lunatics and the willfully ignorant would say that the "two GOP front runners are more of the same".
Whatever. But I agree with Kinky, I would vote for Charlie Sheen before Obama. Any of the folks now running would be an improvement over what we have now.
Seems a who group of people are trying the same thing for other rinos, but at least Willard has not spent his whole life as a career politician..
LLS
Analysts speculate that his rabid supporter may be greatly influenced by this endorsement.
This confirms the bad feelings I had about Pawlenty being a rino.
And of the current electable candidates, Gov. Rick Perry is the Tea Party guy.
Perry is a lying scumbag.
Nothing is going to change my mind about that.
Obviously, most establishment types would prefer a man that they KNOW is untrustworthy, Romney, but I don’t think that they are ultra-concerned about Perry rocking the boat. Bob
I know a lost cause when I see it. I'm only refudiating your ignorance for the benefit of the lurkers and the sane.
That wouldn’t surprise me. However, Cain endorsed Romney in 2008.
How very “christian” of you. LOL
Pretty strong words coming from someone from the "broke dick" state of Michigan...
These 'tools' are so predictable ... and laughably so.
You forget the part where he used his family money to start a business that created jobs by doing hostile leveraged buyouts of companies, stripping them of their assets and liquidating them or selling them off to their competitors.
The only time in his life where he worked with his hands is when he signed pro-abortion legislation and mandated health care laws.
THIS. Doesn't matter who the GOP nominee is, 2012 is going to be very difficult.
It’s going to be hard to stop the Romeny juggernaut now that he’s picked up Pawlenty’s 0.004% of the vote.
