Byron York telegraphs the lines of attack Michele Bachmann is planning on using at tomorrow night's Florida debate to chip away at the support Rick Perry has taken from her:
"Bernie Madoff deals with Ponzi schemes, not the grandparents of America," says a Bachmann adviser. "Clearly she feels differently about the value of Social Security than Gov. Perry does. She believes Social Security needs to be saved, that it's an important safety net for Americans who have paid into it all their lives."
York goes on the say Bachmann's camp was unhappy with how few questions she got at last week's Reagan Library debate, and quotes the Bachmann adviser saying she will make clear she disagrees with Perry on Social Security if asked:
"Certainly not," the adviser says. "She strongly disagrees with his position on that, and it's clearly not something that's going to sit well with the people of Florida and Iowa and South Carolina and many of the early states, where there is a large population of seniors who rely heavily on Social Security. For [Perry] to scare them is wrong."
Yup, Perry even predicted that the democrats would try to scare the seniors.
What is this conspiracy stuff that “Mitt must be onboard”? Bachmann wants to win and Perry has taken a big chunk of her support, now she plans to argue that Perry’s position on SS scares old folks and her position makes her more electable. Romney has nothing whatsoever to do with it. There is no great conspiracy to keep Perry from winning the nomination. This is how we vet our candidates, each one wants to win, and how Perry deals with the Social Security issue will tell us a lot about how electable he will be in a general election.
Perry is a good candidate and I enjoy reading your posts, but lets leave out the conspiracy nonsense.
It’s not about “what works” its about who will do anything about it when given a chance. Thats NOT my governor Perry.
Wow. Your post #37 is very good to read.
I am heartened by it.
For me, it’s like this:
Perry/Palin, Palin/Perry, Perry/*, Palin/*, any order, any running mate... Any questions?
Interesting.
I think I was the only one on the live Ca debate thread that gasped when Perry raised the spectre of SS being broken, but he never said it should be abolished forthright.
I said oh no! he has grabbed the 3rd rail!
But he didn’t get fried. There he stands.
Perry has once again successfully drawn the spotlight to himself.
Here's more.
Did Perry Blow It on Social Security? from Mona Charen.
Ads are already running that Republicans are aiming to take Social Security away from seniors.
The dems are already on it.
Romney is worse than McCain and Perry endorsed Algore in ‘88
I guess one has to expect that from Dumbocrats but it is very unbecoming from a fellow Christian Republican. If this materializes, it is a very bad reflection on Bachmann. I hope this is an exaggeration of what she plans to do.
I asked the other day for some proof about a Bachmann Romney link, but as usual. It never appears. No proof. Not smoking gun. No 18 minutes of taped phone conversation. No East-Anglia-like email-dump.
But it does make sense. It's all speculation, of course, but it's speculation that passes the smell test.
She goes after ObamaCare (she's the best in the debates on that subject) and she leaves RomneyCare alone.
It doesn't really appear that she has a credible path to the nomination (although, yes, I know, it's early still).
Romney, the lone liberal on stage, and the one with a credible (or so it seems now) path to the nomination will need a bonafide conservative as a running mate.
It just makes sense.
But you are right.
No proof.
No smoking gun.
No conversations, no leaks, no emails.
If it's true at all I'm sure it's only really going on in Michelle's head, maybe discussing it with a few very close people. Romney himself doesn't even have to be in the loop for the speculation to be credible.
[Perrys position on SS scares old folks and her position makes her more electable]
Their positions are exactly the same. Or does Bachmann support the status quo with Social Security?
You are not missing anything. Your post #39 is dead-on accurate.
That Romney ad could have had an Obama logo on it.
Tactics like this are exactly why conservatives
are turned off by Romney.
It makes him seem shady like Barry.
And desperate.
At the debate Perry clearly said anyone receiving Social Security
or close to retirement would
not be affected by any of his proposals.
Maybe Michelle’s big hair was covering her ears
and she didn’t catch that part.
Romney and Bachmann are missing a golden opportunity
to show strength by acknowledging
the problems with Social Security.
instead of attacking Perry
for saying out loud what everyone is thinking.
“I dont care if she attacks Perry, but if he approach is to perpetuate the Social Security lie by trying to pander to greedy geezers, Im done with her.”
Agree 100% - it’s nothing but PANDERING!
My vote is always AB0, but I'd rather see Cain at the top.I like Cain a lot, an awful lot, and I think he would be great on a Perry/Cain'12 ticket.
But I have to show my ignorance here. I've seen it other places and don't know what it is: AB0.
What is AB0?
Shameless appeals to emotion (especially fear) are par for the Democrat course. Shame on Michelle for attacking Perry from the left.
Oh, cr*p. I just got it. AB0.
Anyone But Zero.
I am slow!
