Obama Surprised To Learn Schools Use Trailers (video)

While addressing college students in Richmond, VA, President Obama was surprised to learn that schools use trailers, also called 'modular buildings' or 'modular classrooms.' During his visit Obama said he was approached by an educator who mentioned she teaches in a trailer. Obama did not mention that the teacher had a problem with her situation, but he made it clear this was unacceptable.

"I just -- in the back, I was taking some photos with folks who had helped out to organize this event, and there was a young lady who is a teacher. And she said, “I heard your speech last night. I really appreciate it. I’m teaching eighth grade English, and I teach in a trailer.” We shouldn’t have people teaching in trailers. We shouldn’t have kids learning in trailers. They should have classrooms with Internet and science labs," President Obama said to the college crowd.

The practice of using trailers is quite common at public schools and more often than not the accommodations in the modular buildings are better than classrooms inside the the main building. These modular buildings are used for several different reasons including for temporary purposes. For example, while the building or a classroom is being renovated the school may opt for a trailer until the improvements are completed. Ironically, renovating classrooms and schools is something Obama is pushing for in his this new stimulus bill.

He really is a complete idiot. When I was in college, um, a few decades plus ago, some of our classes were in modular buildings.

The MSM will run with this story - just like they did with "Bush the first" and the grocery store scanner. The press loves that kind of gaff... can't wait to see what they do with this one....

“I was informed otherwise, but honestly, after seeing how the other side lives, there’s much to be gained.”

You can have a used double-wide on one acre of land for the cost of a new car. That means you can own it outright rather than paying $200,000-500,000 over 30 years for a house you may or may not be able to sell when you need to. Suppose you walk away with no value in the mobile home and just the land money when you sell. You’ve banked (invested) all the mortgage money you would have spent otherwise.

Now, if you have to deal with school districts or a high-maintenance wife, all bets are off.

BTW, I now own outright 1600 square feet of cement floor garage/shop with remote operated doors. You have to have priorities.

I used to work in one of those “trailers”. It was pretty nice. Heated/air conditioned, of course. The only thing it lacked was a rest room.

“You get the impression that this guy really doesn’t know much about life in America”

pretty obvious by now. doesn’t know history, geography, language, anything about the Constitution.

My kids preferred the “trailers” (actually, they are indeed modular buildings attached to the main school building with covered sidewalks) because they had air conditioning, unlike the main school building.

Modular classrooms make perfect sense because many school districts experience rapid poulation growth with new residential development, but then level off and actually decline in population as the area matures and the kids grow up and move on. At that point you can just get rid of the modular classrooms as they become unnecessary.

It it would be nice if this was his “UPC Scanner” moment, but the press will give him another free pass. Even worse, the “UPC Scanner” event was not like the press portrayed it at all, but that didn’t stop them from falsely pumping it up for years.

Or the way they pummeled Dan Quayle after a teacher handed him a flash card with "potatos" spelled incorrectly. (Or was it "potatoes", ending the same way as "heroes"? Whatever... I always mix that up.)

The journ-O-listers who control the Democrat "mainstream" newsrooms will lie and spin and do whatever it takes to prevent their floating turd Ubama from getting flushed down the toilet in the next election. They will do ANYTHING. Believe it. They are the domestic enemies of normal, traditional America.

“You can have a used double-wide on one acre of land for the cost of a new car.”

That’s very, very tempting at this point in time. I pay too much in rent, but haven’t decided yet on where to settle down. I’m getting to the point where I really have to make a decision, but for now I’ll stick out where I am.

“That means you can own it outright rather than paying $200,000-500,000 over 30 years for a house”

I live in TX. I can get a forclosure for 100k, easy. The argument is between the trailer, which is about a fifth the cost.

“Suppose you walk away with no value in the mobile home and just the land money when you sell. You’ve banked (invested) all the mortgage money you would have spent otherwise.”

Oh, I’m not that sort. If I buy a trailer, it would be because I intend to work and remain in the area for longterm. My job prospects at present aren’t that solid, but I like where I live.

“BTW, I now own outright 1600 square feet of cement floor garage/shop with remote operated doors. You have to have priorities.”

I think we’d get along. I have my priorities too, but they don’t need much space to operate. :)

Blessings sir. Peace and blessings to you.

What? He thinks you can’t have internet in a trailer?
