Owners Angry After Cops Shoot Dog in Backyard
NBC ^

-snip-

But Samuelson's neighbor, Fernando Perez, said he told the cops several times that Ozzy was roaming in the back.

When the security alarm system at the home went off, Samuelson called Perez to check it out while she made the 20-minute drive to her house, he said. Perez said he knew not to go into the backyard because of the dog and when officers arrived, he warned them.

"'Be careful. It’s a big dog,' I told them. They told me to go back to my house," said Perez, who repeated the warning several more times. "Before I get to my driveway, I hear the two shots. They walked into the backyard with the guns in their hand. Then they ran from the backyard like they were scared or something."

Samuelson said she got Ozzy to protect the house and deter thieves. Police have not said what triggered the alarm.

"He was our protector," Samuelson said. "He’s a huge part of our family."

Shouldawouldacoulda vs does.

Cops should serve and protect.
They just don’t have to, is all.

Why would ~I~ “feel good” that he walked?

I’d have preferred he’d been locked up in general population.

You’ve apparently misread my posts.

I’m inclined to agree with your dog.

A couple months back, somebody posted an article here about a family who bought their Iraq vet son a dog and saved him.

He’d been through “the system” with shrinks, counselors, pills...*everything* and nothing helped.

Out of sheer desperation and sort of on a whim, they got him a dog and miraculously, he’s doing very well, now.

The dog isn’t “trained” or “official” or anything else...it’s “just a dog” being a dog yet it saved their son’s life.

Our veterinarian sponsors support dogs for veterans and holds benefit events to raise money for them, all the time.

What a great story. Dogs have been good for man since the beginning of time. I told my pastor that if we humans showed half as much loyalty and devotion to God as our dogs do to us, we’d be living in paradise today.
If someone killed my Ranger or my other dog, Blueboy, I’d have to go into a closet, get down on my knees and pray like mad. Otherwise I’d be real tempted to kill someone.

You’re a lot better Christian than I am, then.

:)

[I could probably get off on an insanity or “crazy hormones” plea]...;D

It was sarcasm. I know you didn’t feel that way.

My lab despises baths but when I point to the tub and tell her to get in...she does.

My mutt enjoys the attention after the bath..toweling, blow drying and brushing make her feel all girlie.

Unfortunately, even in situations in which the owner does contain the dog (the dog is kept in a bathroom or bedroom inside the house), dogs have been shot by Agents of the State.

“To protect (our pensions) and to serve (the interests of The State)”.

You can introduce them with an older dog, but while you can train the dog to not eat the cat, you will likely be unsuccessful at teaching the cats to not assault the dog (demonstrating yet again which of the species is more intelligent. ;-) ).

I’m thinking Odin wouldn’t appreciate an impertinent kitten pouncing on his back/boxing at his ears, etc. ;-)

That is disturbing, if true (and not merely a lame excuse concocted by the defense.

Guilty as heck; free as a bird. (to paraphrase another liberal who was rather pleased at not being convicted of his crimes.

Strange dogs are the only dogs to have.
My last dog thought she was a cat.

Just got back from drill with my new unit.
Interesting crew I joined up with.

Somehow I really don’t imagine Odin wants to feel “all girlie”...LOL

I’d like to see an investigation into their “training methods” if that is considered “acceptable discipline”.

I call it animal cruelty.

If I hauled Odin up by the throat and kicked him the guts, somebody might be posting an obituary thread shortly thereafter and I would have -deserved- it.
