But Samuelson's neighbor, Fernando Perez, said he told the cops several times that Ozzy was roaming in the back.
When the security alarm system at the home went off, Samuelson called Perez to check it out while she made the 20-minute drive to her house, he said. Perez said he knew not to go into the backyard because of the dog and when officers arrived, he warned them.
"'Be careful. Its a big dog,' I told them. They told me to go back to my house," said Perez, who repeated the warning several more times. "Before I get to my driveway, I hear the two shots. They walked into the backyard with the guns in their hand. Then they ran from the backyard like they were scared or something."
Samuelson said she got Ozzy to protect the house and deter thieves. Police have not said what triggered the alarm.
"He was our protector," Samuelson said. "Hes a huge part of our family."

Obviously.
He was interfering with an investigation.
Luckily, he was just told to STFU and go home.
[where in Hell do these idiot posters *come* from?!?]
May the Union thugs that did this _______________.
I really hate union members.
That’s a doggie getting a tummy scratch!
I know...that’s why my heart sank.
What good does it do to go check on a *possible* break in [because electronics *never* fail and set off false alarms] and then shoot your freaking dog in the process?
Did they suspect the *dog* was breaking in?
The dog was _doing his job_ and got killed for it.
It’s becoming increasingly common.
Maybe they’re just practicing for martial law.
I think they come here straight from the litter box whenever the kitties forget to bury them.
What made them think they gould get in to see whats going on from the back?
Mr Perez told them there was a BIG dog back there.
The entire incident is preposterous.
It has been my experience that they wont show up at all for a burglary even to write a report.
They just say, “call your insurance company”
This is just wrong.
No, he wasn’t.
He sleeps beside me on his back, legs sprawled and in the air like a slob and he’d just woke up from a nap and gave me The Gargoyle Face.
[afterwards, he got the tummy scratch]....;D
Who could resist the gargoyle face?!!
You’re much more polite with your theories than I am....:)
Unless it’s a dangerous situation, the owner should be given a chance to secure the dog out of harm’s way and interference.
That should be the procedure.
Absolutely, positively, irreparably WRONG.
When I leave the house, the CC cameras start recording, the deadbolts are all flipped, the yard gate gets padlocked and the dogs are ~inside~.
*If* somebody comes in [and survives the Dobe] I’ve got it all on video.
I’ll show whoever does something to my dogs Hell *before* they die.
I wonder what the police are going to do when they’ve achieved their apparent goal of a non-compliant population.
I’m starting to think that the real goal of these actions is to create a necessity where the constitution must be considered null and void.
I sure can’t and the Dogoyle knows it.
;D
I never remember hearing about these stories not so long ago. That and the young female teachers getting it on with teenage boys. Now both are all the time.
Well, it’s not like she was on her way to her home and would’ve had a chance to do so...oh, wait...never mind.
B&E, criminal trespass, destruction of property.
That’s illegal, isn’t it?
That's the spirit!
Coincidence?
I think not....;D
